About Sina

I have much enthusiasm for all concepts in computer science and teaching the subject is my favorite way to connect with others. I've been doing this since 2005! I currently both work and volunteer as an instructor/tutor to help and empower everyone (children, teens, and adults) to learn to code. I also work in the industry as a software developer and data analyst.

I'm most proficient in the java programming language and encourage its use as the first programming language to teach students since it currently has many applications. It's an enterprise language, which means that many employers look for this skill on resumes. For the mobile app enthusiast, it is also the language used for Android development. Java also has a huge community of developers that support huge programming libraries that can do anything from game development to data analysis.

When it comes to learning, I believe a solid foundation is key for future success in a topic. Because of this, my technique as a tutor is to be thorough and as patient as possible for all types of students. I like to try to assess the level where students are within a topic and work on strengthening topics that are challenging and then build upon that foundation.

I can work out traveling to other locations but prefer to meet at on-campus libraries or other local libraries (since they are the most suitable locations for computers) and at local coffee shops. Currently, I am pretty flexible with time so my cancellation policy only requires at least 4 hours.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask me! I look forward to hearing from you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Computer Programming

I have a master's of science degree in computer science. I have experience teaching programming concepts by being both language agnostic and language specific. My method of teaching involves finding out a student's skill level and starting from there to build upon concepts to reach a skill level goal.

Computer Science

I have a master's of science degree in computer science. I also work in the industry as a software developer and data analyst. I can teach topics ranging from binary to artificial intelligence.
