University of California Santa Barbara (English)
I graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) in 2014 with a major in English and a minor in Physics. I worked as a Math and Physics tutor at the drop-in room for the Campus Learning Assistance Services for 1 1/2 years. Students were able to come to the drop-in room and receive Math and Physics tutoring. During this time, I also tutored UCSB students with learning disabilities and athletes one-on-one. Additionally, I have tutored UCSB students as well as high school and middle school students privately in Math and Physics (Math for the last 6 years and Physics for the last 3).
While I began my studies at UCSB as a Physics major, I later changed my major to English. For the last 3 years, I have been proofreading and giving notes on essays for middle school, high school, and college students. Additionally, I have been helping them out with brainstorming, outlining ideas, fixing grammar errors, and maintaining clarity in their writing. For the past year, I have been helping elementary school students with English as well.
I focus on helping the student arrive at the answer on their own. I find it best not to give the student any answers without making sure they come up with the answer themselves first (because then, they will not be able reproduce that same answer on their own come test time). I am patient with students. I'm a firm believer in the quality of a session being far more important than attempting to rush and get a bunch of sloppy work done in the limited time frame of a tutoring session. Also, I always encourage my pupils to try and work through their problems on their own before they come to me. It is most effective for us help guide students who have already read through the book and tried to work through problems themselves first. This, I believe, allows students to truly understand the problem and then develop their ability to work it out themselves. Nicolas is a GREAT tutor! I'm so happy I found him. I had to learn a lot in a short amount of time for an algebra test. I passed thanks to Nicolas's help! He is easy to work with, patient, good at explaining things, and he knows his math! With Nicolas you can relax and know you have an expert helping you. He is very patient, friendly, supportive, and easy to work with. He's also super smart and knows how to write out problems that you are struggling with so you can practice more. He definitely has a talent for tutoring!
Nicolas was very friendly and patient. She arrived on time, answered emails promptly, had a good command of the subject, and could teach in a way that was easy and simple enough for a struggling student like myself to understand. He helped me grasp the general equations of first and second order differentials and integration. His teaching pacing was good for me as a beginner calculus student. I would use him again.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I tutored students with ADD/ADHD one-on-one at the University of California Santa Barbara for 1 1/2 years. I tutored them in Physics and Math. I was very patient even when they got frustrated and discouraged and helped them understand the concepts.
I have been tutoring students privately in Algebra 1 for 6 years now. I focus on helping the student reach a true understanding of all the concepts necessary to complete their assignment.
I have been tutoring students privately in Algebra 2 for 6 years now. I focus on helping the student reach a true understanding of all the concepts necessary to complete their assignment. If a concept has been skipped by the student, I will take them back to it and help them grasp it.
I have completed vector calculus courses at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB).
Additionally, I tutored students for the Campus Learning Assistance Services (CLAS) at UCSB in calculus for 1 1/2 years. I help students understand the concepts in their textbooks in order to enable them to complete their homework and do well on their tests.
I took Math at the University of California Santa Barbara up to Ordinary Differential Equations. I tutored students on Differential Equations for 1 1/2 years for the Campus Learning Assistance Services (CLAS) at UCSB. I helped students understand the concepts in their textbooks so that they could complete their homework and do well on the tests.
I majored in English at the University of California Santa Barbara. I have been helping students of all ages and levels with English for the past 6 years now. I find it better to have the student figure out as much of the material using their own brainpower as possible (with minimal lecturing from me). That is the deepest kind of learning in my opinion.
I took Vector Calculus up to Differential Equations at the University of California Santa Barbara (and received nothing under a B+ in any of those 4 classes). I tutored students in Linear Algebra for 1 1/2 years for the Campus Learning Assistance Services (CLAS) at UCSB. I help students understand the concepts in their textbook so that they can complete their homework and do well on their tests.
I earned my minor in Physics at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB). UCSB has a top 10 nationally ranked Physics undergraduate program. I tutored students in Physics for the Campus Learning Assistance Services (CLAS) at UCSB for 1 1/2 years. I focus on helping students understand the concepts in their book in order to solve their homework problems on their own. This helps them perform well on their tests.
