University of California Santa Barbara (English)
I graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara. During my freshman year of high school, I started helping my peers understand math concepts. That is when I realized that not only did I have a knack for tutoring, but also, I enjoyed it. While at UCSB I worked as a math and physics tutor at the drop-in room for the Campus Learning Assistance Services. Since moving to Los Angeles over 2 years ago, I have been tutoring math, physics, English, and ISEE for students of all ages and levels.
I earned my degree in English with a minor in physics. My diverse educational background allows me to tutor a range of subjects – from English and writing to math and physics.
I focus on helping our students arrive at the answer themselves, not just giving them the answer. I sharpen my students’ learning skills by helping them think through the problem on their own before I start guiding them toward the answer. This enhances the quality of the tutoring session. I never rush through assignments. My goal is to assure the student comprehends the concepts.
No matter where a student is learning-wise, as long as he or she is willing to learn, improvement will follow.
Flexible with tutoring hours. Please let me know which math or physics topics you will need help with so I can brush up on them and make sure to be as prepared as possible for our session to give you the best tutoring experience possible. Nicolas is a GREAT tutor! I'm so happy I found him. I had to learn a lot in a short amount of time for an algebra test. I passed thanks to Nicolas's help! He is easy to work with, patient, good at explaining things, and he knows his math! With Nicolas you can relax and know you have an expert helping you. He is very patient, friendly, supportive, and easy to work with. He's also super smart and knows how to write out problems that you are struggling with so you can practice more. He definitely has a talent for tutoring!
Nicolas was very friendly and patient. She arrived on time, answered emails promptly, had a good command of the subject, and could teach in a way that was easy and simple enough for a struggling student like myself to understand. He helped me grasp the general equations of first and second order differentials and integration. His teaching pacing was good for me as a beginner calculus student. I would use him again.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I tutored students with ADD/ADHD one-on-one at the University of California Santa Barbara for 1 1/2 years. I tutored them in Physics and Math. I was very patient even when they got frustrated and discouraged and helped them understand the concepts.
I have been tutoring students privately in algebra 1 for 6 years now. I focus on helping the student reach true comprehension of all the concepts necessary to learn the material. If a concept hasn't solidly been grasped by the student, I will take them back to it and help them understand it.
I have completed vector calculus courses at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB).
Additionally, I tutored students for the Campus Learning Assistance Services (CLAS) at UCSB in calculus for 1 1/2 years. I help students understand all the concepts in order to enable them to complete their homework and do well on their tests.
I took Math at the University of California Santa Barbara up to Ordinary Differential Equations. I tutored students on Differential Equations for 1 1/2 years for the Campus Learning Assistance Services (CLAS) at UCSB. I helped students understand the concepts in their textbooks so that they could complete their homework and do well on the tests.
I majored in English at the University of California Santa Barbara. I have been helping students of all ages and levels with English for the past 6 years now. I find it best to get the student to think through the material on their own before I begin guiding them toward the answer.

I earned my minor in physics at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB). UCSB has a top 10 nationally ranked physics undergraduate program. I tutored students in physics for the Campus Learning Assistance Services at UCSB for 1 1/2 years. I focus on helping students fully understand the concepts in order to solve their homework problems on their own. This, in turn, helps them perform well on their tests.
I have been helping students of all ages with reading for the past 6 years. Increasing confidence in reading comes from going slow, making sure your student gets the basics (phonics) down, and giving he or she a chance to use their imagination to have fun with reading (books with pictures work well for this depending on his or her level). Reading is critical to learning and life, and I very much enjoy helping students learn this crucial skill.
I have been tutoring students in trigonometry for the past 3 years. I always make sure he or she has the basics down before moving on to the more complicated concepts in their class. Trigonometry can be tricky, but my students have a high success rate after our tutoring sessions together.
