Bio

First of all, my credentials: I have an M.A. in Comparative Religion and a second Master's in Jewish Studies. I also have an M.S. in Counseling Psychology, as I ultimately hope to work in the very new field of spiritual counseling, which weaves together history, religion/spirituality, and and psychology (especially Jungian).

I am also qualified to teach Tanakh (Hebrew Bible), Jewish Mysticism (Cabala), and Hebrew language (both Biblical and Modern). I have significant academic background...

I have significant academic background in Ancient Near Eastern Studies as well. I have a great deal of experience in both private one-on-one tutoring and teaching small-group adult classes.

My method: I provide a well-paced and structured format, concentrating on helping the student develop a larger perspective, using a deductive approach. I believe this to be preferable because I've found that facts make no sense unless one has the ability to put them into context, whatever the particular subject.

One of my teachers said: I don't teach subjects...I teach students. I agree. This means that we learn together, exploring a given subject as a team. My role is to gently guide a student, as opposed to lecturing and then testing you to determine how well you've memorized. I see myself as a coach: it's not my job to push you to do the work, nor am I on the field playing for you...I'm helping you to train so that you can become a star player on your own!

Above all, I teach effectively because I love learning...even though I've been told I'm fairly demanding, my students seem satisfied with the results!

Please note: I am available to work with undergraduate students, graduate students, and other motivated ADULTS ONLY.

And I also do phone work, BTW. I look forward to hearing from you!

Career Development

Career Development

As part of my master of science program in counseling psychology, I have completed relevant course work in career development and multicultural counseling, which has equipped me to help a wide variety of adult job seekers as well as university students who are exploring career paths. I have significant experience in working with people who need to learn how to sort out their wants, needs, and abilities in order to feel confident enough to make choices and feel comfortable making sometimes difficult decisions. It is not my role to make choices for any individual, but I have the knowledge and the training to help someone develop strategies to solve problems related to career direction.
