East Los Angeles College (Biochemistry)
My passion for math has flourished since elementary school. For some reason I always liked multiplying random big numbers in my head and challenge myself to figure out the answer. Since then, math was always involved in my life. In the 4 years that I attended ELAC I was fortunate to meet great professors who gave me a chance to volunteer at the math lab and eventually got hired. With determination, optimism and confidence anything is possible as long as you believe in yourself.
The subjects I tutor are Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1&2, College Algebra, Elementary Statistics, Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry and Calculus 1&2 ( For Calculus 2 I only tutor up to all the integration techniques). I don't have a favorite nor do I specialize in any of these subjects but I am familiar and can teach them. I have more than 3 years tutoring these courses and have worked with students ranging from 8 years old up to 50. I used to work with an educational tutoring service company and I tutored high school students on a one on one basis. I can also do group tutoring for which I was assigned to go to certain high schools and teach the Math portion for the SAT Workshop Preps.
Many of the past students that I have tutored have commented that I have patience. One thing to math or any subject in general is to have the patience to work out the problem. Showing the steps to the problem helps you practice and store that information for a long time rather than just memorizing prior to a test. I will break down the problem and explain it in a manner where no terminology may confuse the student. I'd rather take 10 minutes explaining one problem than having to repeat myself multiple times because of my poor explanation.
Feel free to ask me any question as there's no such thing as a stupid question. If there's something that you need me to repeat or did not understand, please do not hesitate in asking me that way I can take care of it.
I look forward to hearing from you, so that I can assist you achieve the grade you're looking for in your studies. My passion for math has flourished since elementary school. Jose is patient and thorough. He simplified equations and made the tutoring session well worth the money and time. I also recommended him to a very good friend. I look forward to future sessions.
Very understanding and explains so that you understand. Very good notes that he allows you to keep. Highly recommend him.
I had an excellent tutoring session on statistics with Jose. He knows the fundamentals and also understands that all schools have different methods of teaching and was flexible. Thanks for all your help!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a really good experience with Algebra 2 because I always liked it. At the beginning I hated the applications because I didn't understand how to do them but after years of tutoring this course I am now able to understand the applications and any other topic in the course. I can say this is the class that I have tutored the most. I have done workshops for this class for both college and high school students.
I have 2 years tutoring this course and I find it really interesting. Many people hate this course because they think it's all word problems which it's not. Statistics is very helpful in everyday tasks. I am not so familiar with doing the problems on the calculator. I only remember so much with a calculator but by hand I can do anything.
Such a fun class. I love proving the trig identities and graphing the trig functions. I have a year tutoring trig and it's always a pleasure to help or share my knowledge in trig.
