Loyola Marymount University (Music Theory Comp)
California State University Long Beach (Master's)
Hello fellow musicians and soon to be musicians! My name is Rebecca, and I've been a musician all my life. I received my Bachelor's degree in Music Theory and Composition from Loyola Marymount University, and completed my Master's degree in Musicology at the Bob Cole Conservatory at CSULB. I believe that my diverse musical background has made me a more well-rounded musician and therefore a better teacher!
I have been teaching piano lessons for eight years and have taught hundreds of students. I have found great joy and fulfillment in teaching. As a piano teacher, I strive to inspire within my students the same enthusiasm about music that I feel. I do this by incorporating many elements of music into my teaching; including sight reading, theory, technique and style, music history, and composition. I feel that if a student has a more in-depth understanding of the music that they play, they are able to connect with it on a deeper level and enjoy it that much more. If they enjoy playing, they will practice more and learn more.
I have lots of experience teaching beginners (of all ages) and intermediate and advanced students as well. It's never too late to start learning how to play piano!
If you're interested in beginning lessons with a fun and enthusiastic teacher, feel free to contact me.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received my Bachelors Degree in Music Theory and Composition from Loyola Marymount University. I am an active composer, and enjoy composing music in the classical style that is reminiscent of Chopin and Arvo Part. I often incorporate composition into my lesson plans for students that show an active interest.
I have experience training all levels of students in ear training. I have experience in Solfeggio, as well as other forms of ear training including interval and pitch recognition. For younger students, I create listening games to help improve their ear training skills.
