LaGrange College, LaGrange, GA (English)
I am an experienced English teacher with credentials and a lot of patience. I have been teaching ESL at Pasadena City College for six years. Prior to that, I was a substitute teacher for Jefferson Adult School, part of LAUSD. In addition, I have been tutoring several students in English after hours, ranging from a second grader with reading disability to a medical doctor who needed help preparing for his license to practice in the U.S. My credentials allow me to teach ESL and high school level English and social sciences to adults. I studied English literature and grammar in college. I am also an excellent writer and an experienced public speaker.
With all lessons, my primary focus is on the student. I evaluate the student's ability, and tailor the lessons to their level. By listening and watching the student, I can find the level at which they will be challenged without being discouraged. I am always patient and understanding with students, and will employ a variety of techniques to communicate effectively with the student. My students enjoy both my patient approach and my sense of humor.
If you would like to improve your English skills, whether it's grammar, reading, writing, speaking the language, studying literature, or speaking in public, I can help you achieve your goals with relaxed, friendly, thorough and patient tutoring sessions. I also teach history and social studies. I am an experienced English teacher with credentials and a lot of patience. I have been teaching ESL at Pasadena City College for six years. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I took speech classes in college and have many years of experience in public speaking. I work as a teacher, which requires me to speak and communicate in public, and I perform as a stand up comedian, which gives me extensive experience speaking and communicating to diverse audiences, often in less-than-ideal circumstances. As a writer, I am able to organize my ideas clearly and articulately. I give my students instruction in all of these aspects of public speaking, with excellent results.
