About Jacqueline

Hello Students,

I've been tutoring for over three years now, and I love it. I love tutoring because it not only gives me the opportunity to help students like you to reach greater heights, but it also gives me the opportunity to show you the benefits of being active in the academic community. I will do my best to help you reach your goals.

Now what you have all been waiting for. As a student in high school, I loved the sciences and social sciences (e.g. history, psychology, English), but I also took a keen interest in mathematics. Now, I'm in college and I'm taking a variety of courses because as Francis Bacon famously said "Knowledge is Power." And, one of my priorities is for you to realize that too.

I love English and writing. As a scientifically inclined individual, it may sound strange to some people that I love English. One of the things I admire about English is the subjectivity. It's not like math, where two plus two must equal four. English gives you the opportunity to be creative. I may be so bold to say that English isn't known for 'wrong answers,' with the exception of grammar. By reading an analyzing other texts, you will be able to emulate some of the greatest authors, and later, you will be able to create your own style. I will not force you to read boring novels, but read books that pique your interests, whether it be medicine, forensics, or autobiographies... you name it. I believe my philosophy is summed up into one poignant quote: “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you”-Maya Angelou. Through the study of English, you will be able to tell your story. The purpose/theme of your writing isn't the only factor that tells you who you are, but your word choice, sentence style also convey who you are. With me as your tutor, I will not only help you succeed in English, but I will help you find your voice.

The most frequent problem I see when tutoring students in History is that they don't take the time to truly understand the significance of an event in history; they memorize the event. Memorization and regurgitation can only take you so far, but when you begin to see history as a chain of events, you won't need to cram for a test the night before. When you need to prepare for the AP US History exam, you won't need to stay up until 3:00 am cramming the Princeton Review book, hoping that you'll retain everything 3-4 hours later. When I studied history, I made sure to use different study methods, whether it be watching a movie or a documentary about the civil war or the suffrage movement or reading books like Uncle Tom's Cabin.. The methods I use to be successful in all of my history courses, I will use to help you (we may adjust accordingly).

Math can be difficult for many reasons, but I will not list them here because I don't think you have two days to read my list. The beauty of math is that there are many ways you can come to a solution, and I will show you, so you will be successful in your math class. Repetition is key and understanding your mistakes is essential to being successful. I tutor students in pre-algebra, algebra, and algebra II. Through repetition and taking the time to understand mistakes, the students I have tutored improved in their mathematics abilities.

I love science, and I will teach you to love it too. I'm a pre-med student, so I may be a bit biased. A common problem I see with biology students is that they believe memorization and regurgitation will get them the A+, but as you progress, your teacher may test you on your ability to apply the concepts you've learned in class to real-word situations, so it's essential that students truly understand every subject. By showing students the significance in biology, they will be more interested in the course, which will in turn, allow them to understand concepts easier. Some students may not learn about mitosis through reading two pages worth of material without any diagrams. From my experience as a tutor, hands on learning is essential.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to reach out. I look forward to working with you in the near future.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have over three years of experience in working with students. I believe I can meet or exceed the necessary qualifications to teach students in algebra. I make it a priority to show students interesting and easy methods to understand difficult concepts. For all the students I have taught, I have shown them that repetition is key. After working with them, their scores improved dramatically. I cannot afford to rush students because algebra is the foundation for more advanced mathematics courses (i.e. algebra II, pre-calculus, calculus). So, I will do everything I possible can for your student to be successful in algebra.

College Counseling

I specialize in critiquing college admission essays. Not only will I critique student's essays, but I will also work with them to fill out a wholesome application. I make it a priority for students to stand out, be the person the admission person remembers after reading 100 applications.

When students seek help on their college admission essay, I won't stop with the mere brainstorming and proofreading routine, but we'll work together to craft an application that tells a unique and distinct story because that is what will separate the student from the rest of the pack. Some of the students I have tutored have been accepted into top-tier schools like UC Berkeley, Cornell University, UCLA, University of Michigan, and University of Pennsylvania. I look forward to working with you.

I have a lot of experience in proofreading papers, whether it be personal statements or papers written for your English class. However, I have a special expertise in proofreading personal statements and college/scholarship application essays. I have helped many students during the college application process by working with them one on one to help improve their essays which has lead to great success and happiness during March and April.
