I have lived here in the States and also in South Korea. I am an experienced tutor who has taught Korean and English as second/foreign languages for many years. I am patient when tutoring and place focus on various learning methodologies; everyone has different learning habits and behaviors, so lessons are adapted to fit the needs of each individual student. Whether students are interested in improving their writing or conversational skills, they are carefully accommodated with detailed lesson plans and learning tools which will benefit their Korean language proficiency.

I truly do appreciate the process of language acquisition and the excitement that comes from learning about a new language and culture. My goal as a tutor is to help students gain a better understanding of the Korean language and its nuances, and to assist them in the process of obtaining fluency.

My areas of interest include the following subjects of language education: SLA (Second Language Acquisition), Morphology, Sociolinguistics, Pedagogy, CA (Conversation Analysis), and Phonetics.

Basketball,

Basketball

I have been playing basketball since I was 7 year old, and have played on many different teams and leagues. I understand the shooting concepts, different defense methods, different offensive tactics, and the overall fundamentals of the game. I have competed and won first place in many different tournaments, such as the Nike 3on3 tournament, the Gus Macker 3on3 tournament, and various other 5on5 tournaments. I also have experience coaching basketball. I coached in several different junior leagues and was able to show kids the fundamentals of the game. I don't consider basketball just a sport that I can play, but a sport that I definitely understand the "science" of and am able to explain the science and fundamentals to someone. For these various reasons, I feel that I am definitely competent to assist someone with basketball.

Excellent tutor!!

My first lesson was amazing. He really gets to know you before starting on the background of Korea. Then into the lesson. It’s really great that you actually have a teacher to get to know. Makes the lesson more comfortable. His slides are easy to follow and he is patient with you.

A+ Tutor, patient and to the point

Steve is a brilliant tutor. In our first three lessons he’s helped me comprehend more than I thought I’d understand in such little time. He’s quite patient and gives me time to laugh at myself when I make mistakes. He explains things in a way that is easy to understand and the added history of the why and how really helps. I look forward to every lesson!

Patient and supportive teacher

I liked his teaching style. We could talk in a comfortable atmosphere because of his optimistic and positive way of responding. Sometimes I was not sure about my answer to his question, but I didn't need to be in a rush to give my answer.

Awesome Teacher!!!

I must say that my experience thus far with Steve has been nothing shy of great. I had been trying to teach myself Korean for two years, getting nowhere in that direction I decided to get a tutor. I was really nervous because I never really tried a tutor service like this but Steve is an excellent Korean tutor and a great person, he makes you feel totally comfortable with learning a new language, which is obviously hard but with Steve I can see myself making steady progress. Every lesson is a new aspect of Korean grammar, vocabulary, topic. Makes for a very interesting hour. His explanations are thorough and complete. When I get something wrong or mispronounce something (which I think is everyone’s fear when learning a new language) he is very patient with me. He’s super kind and understanding, and makes the lessons fun and engaging, I always look forward to my lessons and learning with Steve. Highly recommend!

Great teacher!

In just the first lesson, I’m much more confident in my ability to travel through S. Korea, and I’m much more excited about my trip. I’ll be able to read signs! And to have short conversations in Korean!
