I love teaching. My entire career has been in education. Even as an administrator, I viewed my role as a teacher of my students and employees. I have helped hundreds of students with college/grad school admissions, interviews, personal statements, and more.
Education has been a life long pursuit. I was a National Merit Scholar and salutatorian of my high school class. I went to Pepperdine University and earned a BA in Religion. My coursework covered theology, New Testament, Old Testament, Greek, and lots of other great topics in a liberal arts education. I then completed MA coursework in Communication (coursework completed, but no degree) at The University of Oklahoma and Pepperdine University. My studies included Rhetoric, Interpersonal Communication, Cross Cultural Communication, Organizational Communication, and Crisis Communication.
I am available to help you in multiple subjects. I do teach Bible studies, as my degree is a BA in Religion. I've also been a part time/volunteer youth minister or teacher for twenty years. I also enjoy helping people with their writing. I have been a writer for business for the last fifteen years, and have coached many professionals and students in writing personal essays for college and grad school admissions, as well as medical residency. Beyond writing, I am also able to help you with public speaking. I've been a public speaker since age 9...really. I ran the speech lab at Pepperdine for a year, helping students improve their public speaking. In my recent career, I've coached interviewing skills and presentation skills for students and employees. Next, a lot of my career in education has been helping ESL/immigrant students and professionals. I've taught English classes and tutored individuals on speaking and writing.
Finally, if you have questions about college admissions, I have worked in the admissions office at Pepperdine and coached hundreds of students in this area at Kaplan Test Prep. I love teaching. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My undergrad major was Religion at Pepperdine University. My studies focused on New Testament, Old Testament, Greek, and Christian Theology. I have been a youth minister or teacher in Christian churches for over twenty years. Let me know if you have any questions about particular topics before you choose me; I'm glad to confirm whether I can help you.
In my role working at a test prep company, a large part of my job was helping physicians prepare for interviews for medical residency. I coached them on writing personal statements, preparing their resumes, and interviewing skills.
Also, as a manager for over 10 years, I have helped many direct reports improve their professional skills and obtain promotion.
I worked in the admission office at Pepperdine University for four years during my undergraduate studies. Then, I worked at Kaplan Test prep for ten years where I advised students on college and graduate school admissions, including essays, interviews, school selection, etc.
I have been speaking publicly since I was 9 years old. I was in forensics competitions throughout junior high and high school. While in graduate school, I ran the speech lab at Pepperdine University, which helped students prepare their presentations for speech classes. Finally, in my professional career I have coached many employees and students on their public speaking skills.
I have a BA in Religion from Pepperdine University. I have primarily studied Christianity and its texts, but am also familiar with most world religions.
Besides being a successful student and teacher, I have taught an "Intro to College" course at DeVry University that focused on study skills. In addition, I have counseled many students at Kaplan Test Prep about proper study skills for test subjects including math, grammar, logic, and medical information.
