About Ella Ziba

I recently joined WyzAnt as a tutor, but I have been tutoring students in various subjects since I was 14 years old.

I am fluent both in German and English. I speak "Hochdeutsch/Standarddeutsch" without an accent, and I am an professional and award-winning story editor and screenwriter. I have a private collection of more than 1500 books which I make available to my students when necessary.

I am also an experienced ESL teacher and can help students improve their English and/or take and pass the TOEFL test. Plus, I recently helped a student study for and pass the California Real Estate exam.

My experience in the past has shown me that different students prefer different teaching formats and styles, and I tailor my lessons to fit each student's specific needs. I believe that - as a tutor - it is not only important that you are familiar with the subject you are teaching, but that you are also able to teach it in such a way that it is easily absorbed and retained by the student.

If I can help you achieve your goals, feel free to get in touch with me! : )

Student's like Lucy's mom are a dream-come-true for tutors like me. Anna is extremely bright, eager to learn and has a great sense of humor, and it was a pleasure being her tutor! I was impressed with her improvement after just a couple of sessions, and I hope she will heed my advice and keep up with her English while in Korea. Wishing her nothing but the best!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

As a former Executive VP of an "Publishing & Advertising" company, I have not only experience with hiring new staff, but also preparing them for a career in or beyond publishing. I am well aware of what hiring managers look for and how to prepare potential employees for an interview. I also have experience helping potential employees improve their resumes and cover letters and to hone their existing skills to land a (better) job.

I have been a Macintosh user for the last 20+ years. I know most Apple programs like Pages, Numbers, Entourage, IWeb, iPhoto, Final Cut Pro, GarageBand etc. and can teach them. I am also familiar with Microsoft Office for Mac and know many shortcuts and tricks for using those programs. I have taught both beginners and advanced students on the Mac.

Study Skills

I have been a tutor - in one form or another - since I was 14 years old. I believe part of my success so far has been my ability to improve my students' study skills along with teaching them the subject matter. I like to keep on top of the latest research when it come to "learning," and I believe I have an arsenal of methods that can benefit any student to acquire new knowledge quickly and efficiently.

Patient and kind tutor — We wanted to have a ESL tutor for my mother who was visiting us from South Korea. She has been taking English Speaking classes in Korea and wanting to improve her communication skills. Ella was very patient throughout the session, and she tried her best to correct my mother's pronunciation and the way she makes English sentences. Ella gave my mother really good advise how she could improve her ski ...
