I have over 15 years of tutoring experience. I first started tutoring during college with a company called Upward Bound. I tutored a high school student after school twice a week. One of their goals was to prepare them to apply to college. I have also spent time in Egypt doing charity work. This included teaching English to adults and providing one-on-one tutoring for elementary and high school students. I have also tutored here in Los Angeles at my local church. This included students from other countries who needed to learn/improve their English.
I can tutor students from Kindergarten to high school in English, reading comprehension, writing, and other subjects. My strength is in English skills and writing for all ages, but I can also tutor any elementary school subjects grades 1-3. I have experience helping students advance their reading skills. Some students struggle with reading due to physiological development. Some of my students had other struggles like Dyslexia, ADHD, and Autism. I like to use fun in teaching and enjoy building relationships with children. I like to be a positive role model and not only a teacher. I find out what the student's strengths are and encourage him/her in those strengths. Of course, I find out what areas he/she can improve in and let them know they are smart and can accomplish great goals! I enjoy creating a relationship that is built on trust. When the student sees that a tutor cares about him or her, the student can trust the tutor and begin to see him or her as an older sibling or mentor. This is important for young people. They need to see that there are people who care about whether they succeed or fail.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
