I am calm and clear. My analytic capabilities allow me to break up a learning task into manageable parts. I have an EdD, and taught middle school and high school science for seven years, ESL for one, reading for thirteen, and high school and GED prep to adults for ten. I am familiar with the HOBET test to establish fitness for medical professions training. In my tutoring, I demonstrate the thinking skills and techniques to be learned and then lead the student in practicing them. This is in accord with the most recent research on effective teaching. I am aware that the development and effective use of vocabulary in all areas of study is essential for mastery. A language framework is needed to comprehend, express and explore concepts.
I very much enjoy the challenge of effectively communicating knowledge. I am creative in my methods. I love my students. I transform lives. I am calm and clear. She can provide faster and effective help because I usually have almost last min call ( only two day ahead ).
Helen is always on time and is very thorough with my daughter. She takes her time and teaches in a calm, warm and detailed way. We are very happy.
Helen is very understanding, patient and her teaching methods are really good. I can't wait to have my next lesson with her.
We are recommending Helen to anyone who may need an excellent teacher. She is very kind, smart, and very loving. She is a perfect tutor! Thank you Helen!
Helen is a very special and inspiring tutor and we are so happy to have found her. From the very first time she worked with our 14 year old son, he felt more confident and better able to organize his thoughts. Helen has a wonderfully calm manner and she is also a very kind and warm person to be with. Our son always looks forward to seeing her and she is very good at bringing out the best in him and his work. We have worked with a number of teachers and tutors during the last year, and Helen is definitely the best (...as well as our son's personal favorite !)
Helen is amazing. She is not only educated but sensitive and determined to help me succeed. She brings balance to our sessions and has even helped me in the areas of meditation. I am happy to work with her and to have met her!
Ms. K is sensitive, soft spoken, and finds creative ways to focus my son's attention. My son has enormous respect for her and I noticed that he is much more confident in his school work since he started working with her.
Helen has helped my daughter with Biology and has done an excellent job. She is patient and helped my daughter understand the material. I highly recommend her.
I am an adult in my 40's finding myself changing careers! I have not been to a class or taken a test in 20 years! I was extremely nervous and apprehensive about hiring a tutor. I was worried what they must think of my age and inability to do a simple algebraic math problem. Helen was a very patient, compassionate tutor. Not only did she have excellent math/algebra tutoring skills, but she also had amazing biology/chemistry knowledge (something I needed as well to take the HOBET V test). I needed several intense consecutive lessons and Helen was able to accommodate my schedule and I was truly grateful. Helen also researched the HOBET (Health Occupation Basic Entrance Exam) and organized my lessons according to the requirements and/or the type of material that I was likely to come across.
I just took the HOBET V test this past weekend and passed with flying colors!
Thank you Helen!
I'm so very grateful to have found Helen, for my GED tutoring. I didn't really feel confident about my abilities, but after working with her my confidence is building more, and more everyday. Helen has prepared me to take most of the GED tests, with soaring scores. I only have a couple of areas that need fine tuning, and I'm sure, with her tutoring I'll be passing those. I would recommend Helen to anyone, she has a very calm energy, and is completely present. If I have ever been confused, she has done everything to her ability to help me understand. Learning has been fun, and easier than I ever believed possible. A huge thank you to Helen!!!
We feel extremely fortunate to have found Helen! She was an excellent Biology tutor for our ninth-grade daughter. She was very reliable, prompt, responsive by email, very patient, and knowledgeable. She was able to assist our daughter in raising her Biology grade as well as her confidence in the course this semester. Highly recommend! Would definitely use Helen again. Thank you, Wyzant.
I am a therapist and had a client who had not completed high school or received a GED. I selected Helen K., based on her profile from WyzAnt. Helen was an excellent tutor, helping all the way from assessment to passing his GED. She was very efficient, caring, patient, her availability was flexible and she always responded quickly to any questions. I recommend Helen as as tutor with the highest ratings.
We have worked with Helen for several months as our son struggled with high school biology. She is worth her weight in gold. Not only has she assisted our son in biology (who raised his grade tremendously) but she also assists him in improving his study habits.
Helen is responsive, responsible, dedicated and highly experienced. Our family would recommend her highly!
Helen is great! On time, professional, and most importantly my boys -9th grade, and 7th grade, really liked her. They said she helped them immensely with the homework at hand and made it easy to understand. They are not usually that forthcoming with their praise.
Helen is amazing. She is tutoring my 10th grade daughter for AP bio and is very proactive and helpful.
My daughter loves her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught the content of the Algebra 1 course as a part of GED test preparation. I am familiar with the Los Angeles Unified School District's Algebra 1 course outline and CA state content standards. I enjoy teaching Algebra very much.
I taught Biology for 7 years in high school. I have just successfully coached a HS senior in AP Biology. She got a score of 5 on the AP Bio exam and the highest final exam score in the school. I am very enthusiastic about Biology.
I taught 3rd grade in a private school for 3 years. I am familiar with Los Angeles Unified School Districts course outlines for subjects at elementary grade levels. I've taught reading and basic math for many years.
I very much enjoy the challenge of teaching Elementary Math. I explain the concepts clearly using different approaches to assist the student in understanding. I have a calming presence which helps to assuage "math anxiety".
I have taught science for 7 years. I am able to explain the principles of the subject very clearly so they seem easy. I have a calming presence which helps my students overcome any anxiety.
I have taught high school English subjects to young adults as well as upper level ESL classes. The GED test preparation classes I give also involve grammar and writing conventions, as well as essay structure and writing. I enjoy teaching English.
I taught ESL and reading to students of ESL in adult school for 14 years. Most of students in my high school teaching and GED preparation have had English as a second language. ESL has been a major part of my teaching.
I have taught GED preparation for 10 years as well as proctoring and grading the official GED practice tests. I am very skilled at teaching the skills and knowledge required to succeed in passing the GED.
I have taught pre-algebra extensively as part of the GED preparation program. I am creative in my explanations, and am able to clarify difficult concepts and make them simple. I very much enjoy teaching math to young people.
I have worked with many students on writing. I not only proofread for grammar mistakes, but also help students clarify the structure of their writing. I have great powers of analysis which enable me to dissect and elucidate the logic of a thesis.
I taught reading to adults for 13 years. Most of my students had English as a second language so phonics was important as was vocabulary development. I also worked with students so they could visualize the meaning of what they read to have a full understanding.
I have directed students in their successful studying for the GED. My most recent student who is studying in a very fast paced technical program had no idea how to study effectively. After one tutorial she feels empowered and is maintaining a 91 average.
