About Tom

A true professional writer is available for all aspects of writing, English, composition, grammar, etc. With over thirty years in the Entertainment Industry writing for numerous classic television shows, I have established a very close relationship with the English word! From understanding writing, construction, structure, or just how to untangle the web of words that sometimes clog the mind. I have also created a literacy program in which I work with “at risk” high school students. I work with them so they can create, on their own, a one act play which is then preformed by professional actors at their school. This program has been sanctioned and funded by the Writers Guild of America Foundation. Having worked with over 30 separate schools (many as multiple courses over the years), I have gained not only a respect for the individual mind, but have come to not only realize, but prove, that everyone can succeed given the right inspiration and individual attention. I have also worked with students who lack motivation to fulfill their goals or to work with them to help them discover and define just where they want to take their future.

My “method” is simple. I reject negativity, and find the positive in everything. Students learn quickly how to find the “talking points” that stick to them like tattoos to keep them for advancing. What I have learned is that if you truly make a student believe that they can lasso the moon and paint it purple, they will do it! It’s not a matter of simply giving them a “pep talk”, but to work with them, to truly listen to them, and to find the real core of both their concerns, they blocks, and then find their real individual strengths.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I am native born to Los Angeles, and have experience working with English skills for over thirty years, beginning as a child actor, lecturer, teacher, writer-producer-director of television series and motion pictures with over 200 credits to my name. I am an active member of the Writers Guild of America, Writers Guild of Canada, Directors Guild of America, and Producers Guild of America. I have been a coach for public speaking, and both a team coach and individual coach for many of the High School and College Forensic and Debating Society’s, and was myself, both in High School and College, an award-winner in both Forensic and Debating competitions. In addition I have had extensive experience working one-on-one as a tutor. I created a literacy program for both writing and public speaking which was sponsored by the Writer’s Guild of America Foundation, working with both “at risk” and “enriched” students in over fifty high schools throughout the country, and am also the Executive Reading and Writing Consultant for award-winning workshops and seminars. I specialize in working one-on-one, finding specific needs, and creating custom “tools” to work with each student to maximize their potential. I believe in patience, humor, constant positive reinforcement.

Film

I am native born to Los Angeles, and have had over thirty years experience working in the film industry. I began as a child actor, and became, at age 18, the youngest writer to receive a term writer-producer-director contract at Universal City Studios. In the ensuing years, I wrote, produced, and/or directed many of the classic TV series, including “Six Million Dollar Man”, “Man From Atlantis”, “Knight Rider”, “Magnum PI”, “Swamp Thing”, “Baywatch”, and “Thunder In Paradise”, as well as wrote, produced and/or directed over 200 other TV series, pilots, MOW’s, and motion pictures. I worked with some of the legendary directors of cinema, including Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder, Robert Wise, Mark Robson, George Roy Hill and John Badham. I am an active member of the Writers Guild of America, Writers Guild of Canada), Directors Guild of America), and Producers Guild of America.

I have also taught film production and film history for the past 25 years, and am a qualified authentication expert and historian of Motion Picture and Television history and memorabilia, from the silent ear to the present, and have worked on many museum exhibits and auctions around the world, including the famous “Debbie Reynolds Motion Picture Auction”, in Beverly Hills, CA, which included some of the most iconic of movie props, including the Ruby Slippers from “The Wizard of Oz”, and Marilyn Monroe’s “Subway” dress from “The Seven Year Itch”. I have mentored numerous students of film, both in production and history, many of whom have gone on to great success in the industry, and have had extensive training and experience in all aspects of film and television production including directing, producing, cinematography, editing, music scoring (I was a professional musician and composer), special effects, both physical and computer, story-boarding, stunt sequences and budgeting. I’ve also been an acting teacher for both private and professional individuals, as well as a coach for public speaking, and both a team coach and individual coach for many of the High School and College Forensic and Debating Society’s, and was myself, both in High School and College an award winner in both Forensic and Debating competitions.
