University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
I'm an experienced English and Mandarin Chinese tutor and recent graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, currently living in Los Angeles. I have over five years of experience in language tutoring, having tutored children between the ages of 5-13 in one-on-one sessions and at language camps. I've recently begun tutoring my first adult student, and am available to take on new students.
As I am a native speaker of both English and Mandarin Chinese and am very familiar with both cultures, I understand the hardships language and ESL students go through and would be happy to work with you to devise a plan to help you focus on certain areas of language learning if you would like.
In addition, having double-majored in political science and communication,I would be happy to draw up a lesson plan to tutor any social sciences or communication-related subjects (speech, essay-writing, reading, etc). I have studied government & politics extensively and participated in many speech-making competitions; I would love to help you master either subject!
Please feel free to email me for more details. I look forward to working with you!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
ESL (English as a Second Language) or ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) refer to the studies of the English language by non-native English speakers.
Having lived for more than ten years in the United States and Taiwan, I have experience working with ESL students from both countries, and am familiar with foreign cultures and different ways of teaching students' whose first languages are not English.
Public speaking is delivering deliberate speech to a group of people with the intention of informing, persuading, or entertaining them.
It is a skill that everyone should possess, one that will come in handy in every situation.
As a communication major at the University of Illinois, I focused on public speech, taking classes in debate, persuasive speaking, speech-making, and speech analysis. I participated in several extracurricular activities that required public speaking, and emceed several conferences.
I can coach you in whatever field of public speaking you would like to focus on, from speech-writing to presentation.
