Hi!

I'm Vincent, a recent graduate of Harvard University who moved to Los Angeles a few months ago. I've had lots of experience tutoring a wide variety of math subjects. I've done in-home tutoring in Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus. Not only that, but I've worked professionally as a group tutor for first-year college Physics.

Prior to getting my graduate degree at Harvard, I attended Pomona College in Claremont, CA, where I earned a 3.8 GPA. While at Pomona I was able to manage getting a double-major in Mathematics and Theatre, which is no easy feat, as it requires you to complete the requirements for each major with absolutely no overlap. Thankfully, I had taken two years of college mathematics at Harvey Mudd College while still in high school, which enabled me to complete my double-major and still study abroad my entire junior year of college. In addition to my two years of math at Harvey Mudd, I also completed an entire year of college physics and a semester of college biology, all while enrolled in high school!

My record of academic achievement proves that I have the knowledge your student needs to succeed in school. But I consider success at school to be more than mere learning by rote. Real comprehension requires an enjoyment of the subject matter at hand. And that's what I hope most to instill in your student. Math and Science are far more than a collection of Byzantine formulas, even though it might be hard to realize that from the way many teachers approach the material. Instead, Math and Science are keys that let us access the sheer joy of understanding. By couching problem sets in a puzzle-solving framework, drawing parallels to real world applications, and helping your student see the larger picture, I will enable them to go beyond understanding the material to enjoying the entire process of learning.

Math

Discrete Math,

Discrete Math

I majored in mathematics at Pomona College and received my BA in math. As part of my major, I studied discrete math. In addition, I've taken many in-depth courses on the various aspects, such as combinatorics, graph theory, and more. I like how a good discrete math course teaches both concrete concepts while still allowing for interesting puzzles and creative problem solving.
Linear Algebra,

Linear Algebra

I majored in mathematics at Pomona College and received my BA in math. As part of my major, I studied linear algebra. In addition, I've taken many in-depth courses on mathematics and proof. Linear algebra is often used as a gateway to the more proof-based aspects of math, and I like how a good course teaches both concrete concepts while also scaffolding an understanding of proof in general. The course has both direct application to many fields (computer science, physics, etc.) while also providing insight into the more abstract aspects of mathematics: when I tutor it, I make sure to help students see and understand both of those elements.

Outstanding

I am very grateful for Vincent's help with my linear algebra class. He is very knowledgeable and explains concepts in ways that actually make math make sense. You can really see his theater background come alive in his teaching--he relates topics to situations that are relatable and his passion for the subject is evident. Thank you for your help!

Extremely Helpful

Vincent is extremely helpful, and allowed me to understand the material in an extremely effective manner. He is enthusiastic and uses analogies to help me understand the material further. He also allows me to finish my work quicker because of his short cuts due to his extensive knowledge on math. I highly recommend Vincent as your tutor.

Excellent Tutor!

Vincent's approach is what every tutor's approach should be! He is patient, clear, and concise about every detail. If I don't understand it from the first time he will explain it again and again in various ways until I get it. He uses great comparisons and allegories when it comes to math concepts, which is exactly what I was looking for. His GRE material knowledge is excellent and I would recommend him to anyone who is getting ready for that monster test!

Great tutor who can explain in the ways that I can understand the topic

Vincent is patient and willing to explain things from different approaches, if I don't understand his first attempt at explanation. He uses understandable and relatable examples applicable to the problem at hand. Vincent gives good pointers across Math, Science and Reading SAT sections in methods that I wouldn't have thought of before on my own. He has been very helpful!

Very Patient and Knowledgeable

Vincent has helped me improve in precalculus in a short amount of time. Since I am taking summer school, I only have six weeks to finish precalculus and I have a test every Friday. My first week with Vincent was a great success, I understood the material and my grades improved drastically ever since Vincent became my tutor!

My daughter was doing poorly in pre calculus until Vincent

My daughter in high school complains about her pre calculus teacher that she does not understand him. She loves learning from Vincent who is clear and engaging. She looks forward to her sessions with him and enjoys pre-calculus. Her grades have improved greatly.

Great Tutor!

Vincent is very thorough and was spot on when evaluating my son and his needs. In just one session working with my son, he saw and evaluated his needs and was able to communicate those needs to me. I was impressed with his observation and evaluation skills which are so important when working with a frustrated student. I recommend Vincent as an excellent tutor who is patient and knows his subjects thoroughly. Sincerely, Scott T
