Pomona College (Math and Theatre)
Harvard University (Master's)
I'm Vincent, a recent graduate of Harvard University who moved to Los Angeles a few months ago. I've had lots of experience tutoring a wide variety of math subjects. I've done in-home tutoring in Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus. Not only that, but I've worked professionally as a group tutor for first-year college Physics.
Prior to getting my graduate degree at Harvard, I attended Pomona College in Claremont, CA, where I earned a 3.8 GPA. While at Pomona I was able to manage getting a double-major in Mathematics and Theatre, which is no easy feat, as it requires you to complete the requirements for each major with absolutely no overlap. Thankfully, I had taken two years of college mathematics at Harvey Mudd College while still in high school, which enabled me to complete my double-major and still study abroad my entire junior year of college. In addition to my two years of math at Harvey Mudd, I also completed an entire year of college physics and a semester of college biology, all while enrolled in high school!
My record of academic achievement proves that I have the knowledge your student needs to succeed in school. But I consider success at school to be more than mere learning by rote. Real comprehension requires an enjoyment of the subject matter at hand. And that's what I hope most to instill in your student. Math and Science are far more than a collection of Byzantine formulas, even though it might be hard to realize that from the way many teachers approach the material. Instead, Math and Science are keys that let us access the sheer joy of understanding. By couching problem sets in a puzzle-solving framework, drawing parallels to real world applications, and helping your student see the larger picture, I will enable them to go beyond understanding the material to enjoying the entire process of learning.

He explained everything really well and at the right pace for me to understand everything! Trig makes so much more sense now!
Vincent has helped me improve in precalculus in a short amount of time. Since I am taking summer school, I only have six weeks to finish precalculus and I have a test every Friday. My first week with Vincent was a great success, I understood the material and my grades improved drastically ever since Vincent became my tutor!
My daughter in high school complains about her pre calculus teacher that she does not understand him. She loves learning from Vincent who is clear and engaging. She looks forward to her sessions with him and enjoys pre-calculus. Her grades have improved greatly.
Vincent is patient and incredibly knowledgable. My son feels very confident each time they meet and has a strong A in his Algebra class.
Vincent is very thorough and was spot on when evaluating my son and his needs. In just one session working with my son, he saw and evaluated his needs and was able to communicate those needs to me. I was impressed with his observation and evaluation skills which are so important when working with a frustrated student. I recommend Vincent as an excellent tutor who is patient and knows his subjects thoroughly.
Sincerely, Scott T
My teen was inspired by Vincent to not only be a better student but to be a lifelong learner, as well. He is very smart but understated. My daughter was at ease in her two hour session with him.
Vincent was super great to work with. He was so knowledgeable, patient, and gave me confidence. I know working with him will definitely raise my GRE scores.
Vince is an excellent tutor for college math. He began working with me half way through the semester when I realized my grade in discrete math was not as high as I had hoped. Vince is extremely helpful in working through tough problems and by the end of the semester I was able to achieve an "A" for my final grade. I would definitely work with Vince again and highly recommend him as a tutor.
Vincent assessed my son's strengths and gaps and was right on. He is good with boys and knows his math. Better yet, he can teach it.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I majored in mathematics at Pomona College and received my BA in math. As part of my major, I studied discrete math. In addition, I've taken many in-depth courses on the various aspects, such as combinatorics, graph theory, and more. I like how a good discrete math course teaches both concrete concepts while still allowing for interesting puzzles and creative problem solving.
I majored in mathematics at Pomona College and received my BA in math. As part of my major, I studied linear algebra. In addition, I've taken many in-depth courses on mathematics and proof. Linear algebra is often used as a gateway to the more proof-based aspects of math, and I like how a good course teaches both concrete concepts while also scaffolding an understanding of proof in general. The course has both direct application to many fields (computer science, physics, etc.) while also providing insight into the more abstract aspects of mathematics: when I tutor it, I make sure to help students see and understand both of those elements.
