About Nina

Hi!

Are you struggling in school? Or just need a gifted teacher to explain some of the more confusing stuff, and steer you in the right direction? I can help you, with a minimum of misery, and a lot of cheerleading. I graduated UCLA this year, summa cum laude, and I have tutored all ages: K-12 and college level. My areas of expertise lie in grad-level English language arts and history, but I also have a great knack for teaching math at the pre-Algebra school level.

We all have our strong points in school, and our weak points. What's important is remembering that our weak points are just challenges we can overcome, even when they seem overwhelming. With patience and clear, easy-to-understand guidance and instruction, any student can master any subject.

Let's get started, and boost that confidence: you can do it!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

In addition to being a tutor, I also operate my own proofreading/editing business. The English language is my passion, and the majority of my tutoring revolves around assisting students in formulating a solid thesis and writing a cogent, flowing essay in whatever subject is at hand. For all you Lit students, I can prove to be invaluable. I specialize in extracting and explicating the deeper meanings in fictional works.

American History

I graduated UCLA summa cum laude as a history major, with an emphasis on American History. A great deal of my tutoring revolves around assisting students in formulating a solid thesis and writing a cogent, flowing essay in whatever subject is at hand. However, I will prove invaluable in helping you find the study method best suited to you for test preparation.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have vast experience in tutoring students of all ages, and, as a parent, K-6th is closest to my heart. I have a knack for finding the "level" of a student so that I can convey meaning to him or her. My specialty is assisting in improved reading skills and scholastic writing, but I'm excellent at teaching pre-Algebra and instilling good work and study habits. This is the age when those habits are established, and without them, regardless of a student's intelligence, higher learning will be overly challenging.

For all you Lit students, I can prove to be invaluable, as I was a history major and lit minor, and I specialize in extracting and explicating the deeper meanings in fictional works.

Proofreading

In addition to being a tutor, I also operate my own proofreading/editing business. The English language is my passion, and I can guarantee you will not find a faster, more adept proofreader/editor for all types of materials.

Reading

In addition to being a tutor, I also operate my own proofreading/editing business. The English language is my passion, and the majority of my tutoring revolves around assisting students in "close reading" to facilitate formulating a solid thesis and writing a cogent, flowing essay in whatever subject is at hand. For all you Lit students, I can prove to be invaluable. I specialize in extracting and explicating the deeper meanings in fictional works.

Spelling

In addition to being a tutor, I also operate my own proofreading/editing business. The English language is my passion, and I can guarantee you will not find a faster, more adept proofreader/editor for all types of materials. I also work extensively with students of all ages who are struggling with English spelling rules.

Study Skills

Having graduated UCLA summa cum laude last June, and having tutored students of all ages for the last few years, I can guide any student toward acquiring improved study habits. Study habits lay the groundwork for success in school; a student can be brilliant, but without knowing how to study properly, that student cannot succeed in school.

World History

A great deal of my tutoring revolves around assisting students in formulating a solid thesis and writing a cogent, flowing essay in whatever subject is at hand. However, I will prove invaluable in helping you find the study method best suited to you for test preparation.
