About Brooke

Hello, Prospective Students and Parents!

I am thrilled that you have decided to learn more about me and the services I can provide. I love helping students to be their best selves by aiding and inspiring them.

As an Art tutor I have an educational background in fine art from some of the best schools in the country for it. My education in Art began in High School where I was classically trained at an all Arts Private school in Massachusetts. My teaching technique for students under 10 consists of: the basics of learning how to "see" in respect to drawing and painting. Simple exercises are preformed by the students to help them understand the fundamentals of perspective, volume, and space.

My technique for 10 - Adult, consists of a more flexible approach in general to meet the needs of my students but follows basic guidelines in technique in drawing and painting using a range of media: pastels, oils pastels, oil paint, watercolor and gouache. I incorporate some Art History, mostly contemporary, as a guide to engage in the process of art making at large and to educate students about what is happening now, in the art world. My philosophy is that technique should be taught but ART is what happens when you develop your own unique way of doing it. I am very well suited to the student looking to build a portfolio to apply to art schools, and I know about the many specific differences and approaches each school has, most schools approach art within a specific philosophy and prepare their students for specific professional tracts. Having inside info about a school can help in making choices on where to go.

For Adults, I take an elevated approach to art making with less instruction, unless necessary, and more dialogue about what you are drawn to creatively.

For Students of Film. My experience editing scripts and working with writers and the producers who get them made, as well as writing a few of my own, enable me to help guide you through the process of script writing from a professional viewpoint. This is perfect for students looking to join a screenwriting program in college or potential directors.

I am also well equipped to help a student design and implement a short film from pre-post. My experience is particularly suited for students applying to film school as well as the young Speilbergs of the world.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Video Production

Formerly, I was a Film development and production professional in Los Angeles. I have worked with Lakeshore Entertainment, Warner Brothers, the Collective, American Zoetrope, and at Various commercial production houses for editorial photo shoots.

My expertise lie in : Screenwriting, script analysis and production. I was a producer for web commercial and music videos.

In terms of production tutoring I am best suited to guide students through the entire production process from pre-post when they are working on their own short film.

My professional work has consisted of: overseeing all aspects of a production from permits, locations, to hiring, crew, editing, lighting video. In this subject, my experience would best benefit a student looking to produce and film a short for college entrance, student festival submissions, or merely based on their passion to improve on how they make stories come to life.
