Cal State University at Northridge (Transfer to Mesa State in Grand Junction) (Astrophysics)
I originally started as an Astrophysics Major at CSUN. Though my tutoring experience goes as far back as early High School, I started tutoring many students in the San Fernando Valley while attending CSUN and made connections with many families, many of whom have remained loyal clients to this day. Due to needing to relocate, I finished my degree in Grand Junction, Colorado and graduated cum laude with my Bachelors of Science in Astrophysics and a minor in Mathematics. Despite Grand Junction not holding the reputation of a big city, like Los Angeles, the camaraderie between teacher and student, as well as the level of education being delivered, was quite refreshing, and, in my opinion, superior. During my time there I gained tons of hands-on experience with students in the Tutorial Learning Center, a student-staffed tutoring service offered by the college. It was here that I made over 300 new contacts in my short three-semester stay, and quickly rose to one of the "Top 10" tutors employed there. After returning to the Los Angeles area, I have made many new clientèle (with references upon request), as well as reconnected with old ones. I have found that quickly assessing a student's learning style is of the utmost importance, as in the first session I am already custom tailoring an experience to fit each student's unique skill set.
After working with many companies in the Los Angeles area since my return, I'm here now to offer you these great services, without the bloated premium that goes along with their name. I enjoy seeing the look on the face of my students when they "get it." I believe that we are all supposed to help out in our community in some way, and I definitely have found my calling. With the years of experience I've gained, my knowledge of the material is more than one-dimensional. I will teach your student how they NEED to be taught and not just how I was taught. With this approach, a successful outcome is more likely because every child is different, and catering a teaching style to the INDIVIDUAL is far superior to the method that schools use, which is a blanket approach. They will teach all the kids something one or maybe two ways, and hope it sticks with the majority. This is where my services will shine, and finally fill in the gaps left by a flawed educational system.
I pride myself on attention to detail, and being able push my students to their full potential without creating intense strain. Sessions are fun and engaging, but never unprofessional. To date I have had over 15 years experience in tutoring, focusing in math and the sciences. I originally started as an Astrophysics Major at CSUN. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Majored in Astrophysics and minored in math. A part of my physics major included two years of chemistry. Passed top of my class, as well as scored top 7% in California during standardized testing for Chemistry in High School.
