I listen and work personally and individually with each student. I come prepared with material to work and bring them the needed supportive and positive results. It works! We get results.
Barbara is a patient, reliable, and encouraging tutor. She has made quite a favorable impression with my son, and positively pushes him to tackle his problem areas. Great tutor!
She has passion for teaching. Especially she tries to find good methods on tutoring. Also she always wears smile on her face. Thanks,
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The CBEST is a required exam for all teachers in California. The exam is three parts, math, reading with comprehension and an essay. The point to pass the exam is given through the state and it fulfills basic requirements for substitute and teaching in the state. It's a comprehensive exam based on the fulfillment of grades k - 12 and includes a concentration of math, algebra, and geometry and then in the English area a strong emphasis on grammar, ability to see the topic sentence and vocabulary. I have passed this exam and have the certificate since 2003.
Elementary (K-6th) is my special subject since the students are open to learning and enthusiastic to find that learning can be fun. This is wonderful! I bring tools to hear sounds of objects and then bring in sentences and light reading as we move forward. Enthusiasm is contagious and a strong foundation is very significant.
My academic studies have involved most students with ESL and to stimulate and make the transition easy I have studied and tested for ESL through on-line and Sylvan Educational Schools. My patience, skills and ability to move quickly with a strong positive response bring success to all of my students. Keeping your first language is so important and empowers you with bilingual abilities in life. I have the books and printed materials for all ages to learn English with success.
My voice and piano lessons began long ago and once your know how to read music it never leaves you. I am accomplished in both voice and piano and have studied at the Chicago Musical College and continued on to a professional musician and singer. I continue to write lyrics and vocals for myself and to inspire youth with the gift of music. I have performed in Chicago and Los Angeles as a soloist and in theater productions as well as T.V. for more than 20 years experience. The study is only challenging if it's not natural for you however if one has the desire, I believe they have the talent to go with the knowledge. I use music when teaching young children to read since music is almost a second nature to them and it comes very easily and with happiness. Amazing!
I am a creative, passionate and articulate woman about all of life. I believe that everything and everyone has something about them to say...I find the words that come alive and can be touched, felt and bring inspiration to the thoughts you might be thinking or feeling. I can show you how to bring the best of you "your voice," into music and people will be speaking and singing your lyrics. I have been writing since I was a young girl in Chicago and as I looked up above me, the skyline of the city buildings gave words to my heart and the music and lyrics began to play. I write for T.V. and have created, written, produced and directed a local Los Angeles program for over 20 years with amazing success. Your voice is the only one out there and when it is expressed it’s a new beginning for the universe. I was shy and found the stage to be the landscape and ground for me to open-up and find my confidence.
I have embraced Special Needs Teaching with over ten years of work with Westside Regional Center, tutoring through specific programs for IEP work and my on-going studies in Houston, Texas. I have found that each student is unique, with special gifts and talents that give them personal performance in their way. The Special Needs Student is uniquely qualified for special studies. It is a relationship that is gentle yet powerfully successful.
I have multiple degrees and a book published in The library of Congress.
