Hi there!

I strive to connect with my students on a human level so that learning becomes engaging and collaborative. Having received tutoring myself, I am deeply aware of the importance of patience, kindness and respect for diverse ways of thinking. Sometimes the generic approach from the classroom doesn't stick for everyone. I cater each lesson plan to the particular student's needs in order to ensure that the material makes sense for their learning style. My goal is to help instill problem-solving skills so that my students gain the confidence to excel on their own.

These values constitute the backbone of my teaching strategy, but I also carry years of experience with a deep knowledge of the subject. I have tutored over 20 students in the past five years, and have watched them evolve from frustration and C grades to As that boost confidence and lead to improved study habits. Below is a list of the experiences that I hope will demonstrate my passion and aptitude for teaching:

-Five years of experience tutoring over 20 middle school to college level students in Spanish
-Total Spanish fluency with exceptional writing and grammar skills
-Masters in Global Journalism and Latin American Studies
-Watched many of my students progress from Cs to As, while gaining tremendous confidence and improved study habits.
-Graduated from Colorado College with GPA of 3.7 (major, philosophy, minor, Spanish)
-Worked in the writing center for two years helping students edit papers
-ESL teaching to Latino immigrants in Colorado Springs
-Tutored English during my study abroad in Barcelona, Spain and Florence, Italy
-Taught English in a tiny indigenous Kuna village in Panama for one month (completely isolated and independent.)
-Worked for a nonprofit law firm that only serves migrant farm workers under the poverty line (Demands Spanish fluency with translation skills)

Certainly there are plenty of highly-qualified instructors available on WyzAnt, but good chemistry between a student and professor is hard to come by. If you are inte

I have four years of experience tutoring over 15 students in Spanish and it is the subject I love to instruct the most. When learning a language, confidence is critical to success. Many of my students have evolved from struggling C-grades and insecurity to improved sense of self-belief reflected in their A-grades. I take great satisfaction in watching this growth. Having lived in Spanish speaking countries for over two years, I am a fluent speaker. With this background, I worked for a non-profit law firm that demanded Spanish fluency and I am highly trained in grammar, translation and the spoken language. This sets me apart as a tutor because I deeply understand the mechanics of the written language in addition to the conversational spoken word. If you want to be able to speak the basics or write an essay, I have the skills that will help you meet your goals-whether it be help with homework or learning to speak from the ground up. I have watched my students take extraordinary strides in their language abilities and I am very confident that I can help anyone improve.

Having worked in my college's writing center, I have a wealth of experience helping students to map out their ideas, construct outlines, create drafts and polish the final result. I obtained my undergraduate degree in philosophy from a liberal arts college. As a result, I know how to guide students to read critically and actively. Succeeding in English requires refining these thinking skills and developing the patience to outline, write and revise. If you are looking for someone who has a warm teaching style catered to individual student needs, I am confident that I can provide this instructive care. I hope to give every student the skills and confidence to succeed in English on their own!

Sometimes it just takes a second set of eyes to identify the areas where a piece needs work. I have worked as a grant writer for non-profits, published my own literary blog, studied creative writing at the Iowa Writers Conference and edited legal documents for a law firm. With this background, I am prepared to take on many writing styles- from critical essays to creative vignettes to professional documents.
