I love helping students grasp a subject that I struggled with in high school. It gives me a unique understanding of how students approach problem-solving in chemistry and biology.

I primarily tutor AP Chemistry and AP Biology students. AP Biology can prove harder to grasp than AP Chemistry. AP Biology requires high school students to describe processes in detail, often a new skill set for them. I focus on detail in both chem and bio lessons. AP Biology requires high school students to describe processes in detail, often a new skill set for them. I focus on detail in both chem and bio lessons. The most successful students meet with me early and regularly to keep current with the material.

- Struggling with homework and/or doing poorly on exams.
- Needing emergency support with an assignment due the next day.
- Wanting to work on the finer points of their course.

I look forward to working with your student to help him/her improve their grades and stay ahead of the material.

ACT English

I've tutored the ACT and the SAT for more than five years, and I've also tutored the new re-designed SAT exam (which looks very similar in structure and content to the ACT!). I've tutored high school sophomores and juniors for over 1,500 hours on all sections of both exams. When working with me for at least 10-12 weeks on a weekly basis, students saw an average improvement of 3-6 points in their ACT scores and an average of 200-250 points in their SAT scores.

Chemistry,

Chemistry

For the past 11 years, I have tutored high school and college students in chemistry, one of the most difficult subjects for students to grasp. Chemistry is inherently a difficult subject to grasp for two reasons: 1) It's a laboratory science that's taught in a classroom. 2) It's a course in problem-solving, not in memorizing facts! I teach students problem-solving for chemistry (which is different from problem-solving for math) by working through problems of various levels of difficulty. I also like to use props -- like modeling kits -- to make chemical concepts more accessible -- and tangible! Most of my students have improved their final grade by at least one letter grade after working with me on a regular, weekly basis over the academic year. I keep track of my student's progress over the year, so that the student and I have an outline of concepts to review for his midterm and final exams. By showing him how I keep track of his assignments and tests, I'm coaching the student on how to develop and apply study skills to manage a course as tricky as chemistry. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology at the University of Texas at Austin, I went on to San Francisco State University and Columbia University to complete a Masters in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, respectively. After years of working in research and education, I've gained the most personal satisfaction from helping students demystify the intimidating nature of chemistry through a customized, one-on-one format.

High quality tutor!

My daughter has already seen significant improvement in 2 sessions! She just got a 100% on her pretest quiz today; she had failed her last test prior to getting instruction from Sarah.

Patient Chemistry Tutor

Paloma said that you really "knew your stuff." You were able to immediately help her with the specific problems that gave her challenge and you pointed her to important resources (conversation tables) that will further help her. She loved your patience and style, and she said that you were the best tutor she's ever had ... and she's had a number! Thank you very much!

Great Tutor

Helped my daughter with ease. First time doing tutoring on line and will do it again. Very nice and made chemistry seem easy. Thank you . Highly recommend. Knew Chemistry and was very smooth. I was hesitant with online, but no anymore.

Best Tutor!!!

Sarah has been assisting my son (who is now a Junior in High School) for the past year with Chemistry and Algebra 2. He went from failing Chemistry to being enrolled into the Chemistry Honors class by his teacher the second semester. We have since asked her to stay on with us for Physics Honors and PreCalculus. We hit the jackpot when we found Sarah, she is AMAZING!!!

Lifesaver!

Working with Sarah has really bolstered my confidence as a post-bacc science student. She is so kind and makes every problem so much more approachable. Sarah is a terrific chemistry teacher. I can't recommend her enough. Thank you Sarah!!

Understanding and Helpful

My 15 year old son found Sarah's instruction to be tremendously helpful! She was able to explain the concepts in a step-by-step fashion that not only helped him to finally understand them, but gave him the confidence that he could easily solve those types of problems on his own. We give Sarah two highly enthusiastic thumbs up!

CHEMISTRY LIFE SAVER

Sarah is just fabulous. She is overwhelmingly kind, knowledgeable, and patient. She is currently helping me with college level chemistry (premed) and my understanding of the material has drastically improved. She simplifies the most complex topics so that anyone can understand them! I cannot recommend her enough. Look no further... you've found the holy grail of tutors!

Very organized, knowledgeable, effective and great teacher.

Sarah has all the makings of a great tutor. There are many knowledgeable tutors but its less common to find a tutor that can communicate their knowledge effectively in an organized and efficient manner to maximize the tutoring session. That is exactly what you get and more with Sarah. She is kind, respectful and makes every attempt to ensure that your child is comfortable. Sarah masterfully clarifies difficult concepts and makes them fun. My daughter is more confident in her ability to tackle chemistry and math now and looks forward to her sessions with Sarah. I am so glad we found Sarah and really appreciate everything she has done for us.
