I am a native Japanese speaker, born and raised in Japan. I am certified as a Japanese language teacher in Tokyo, where I started teaching. I have taught both business people and students for more than ten years in six different countries, Japan, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Finland, and the U.S.
Those experiences have given me a deep understanding of the uniqueness of each culture as well as the differences of languages that often impede learning Japanese.
I teach from kids to adults, from college students to international students to business people. A customized curriculum can be built, depending upon your goal. As a mother of two school-aged daughters, I know school curriculums and can help you studying for the AP Japanese course too.
I am very friendly, patient and a good listener.
I have a tutoring office in Los Altos but can travel to another location if that is more convenient for you. I will try to be flexible with scheduling. While I have a 24 hours cancellation policy, I am happy to offer a make up class.
I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Kumiko has been wonderful in quickly preparing us for a trip to Japan. No, we aren't conversant, but after 4 lessons we have enough Japanese to get around. She is clear, concise, and very, very patient. I highly recommend her!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have BA in Education from Kobe University, Japan. I have almost ten years of teaching experience in six different countries.
I passed "Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test", an official certification for a Japanese Language Teacher in Japan.
I can teach either by the Direct Method (only in Japanese) or by the Indirect Method (in Japanese and English), depending on students' goal, skill, and environment. I can also customize curriculam for individual students.
