UC Berkeley (Computer Science)
I am a native Chinese Mandarin speaker, reader and writer. I was born, raised and educated in Taiwan but have lived in US for almost 30 years. I graduated from UC Berkeley with a Computer Science degree. I tutored elementary and middle school students in Math throughout my college years and really enjoyed watching kids improving their skills through my teaching.
After graduating from UC Berkeley, I worked in High-Tech industry as a Senior Marketing Professional for many years. It was fun and taught me how to deal with different personalities. This was also when I tutored professionals in Chinese Mandarin to help improving their connection to Chinese manufacturers.
As my kids going through schools, I volunteered frequently as a teaching assistant in the classroom. I really enjoyed working with kids and transferring my knowledge to the next generation. From teaching and assisting my own kids through elementary and middle school (and even high school now), I have learned many tips and tricks to get young kids motivated in learning. I want to utilize what I have learned to help other kids succeed.
I am fluent in speaking, reading and writing in both Chinese and English. For Chinese, I am very focused on teaching the correct pronunciations because different tones in Chinese can have very different meanings. It is extremely important to pronounce correctly so that people can understand. I can teach all levels and am especially good with kids.
I can also help kids who are struggling in elementary school education. I will teach them the right study habit so that they can carry on to middle school and high school. I am experienced in teaching k-6 math and pre algebra and algebra 1. My two sons have always been placed in Advanced Math level in schools throughout their school years because of my tutoring and guidance. Since I started tutoring through WyzAnt, I have helped D students become A students in ~6 months and A students who dropped to B/C students back to A students in about one month.
At this moment due to high demand of my service, I can only accept new students who are willing to come to me for tutoring. I also require a 24-hour cancellation notice for schedule planning purpose. Linda has started math tutoring for my then 6th grader around February 2015 and under Linda's guidance she has come a long way. We had moved from Australia and my daughter had missed out on half a year of math as she moved forward into grade 6 immediately. In the second semester she was struggling as some of the basic math concepts were missing. Linda did a great job in bringing her up to speed. She has become much more confident and has caught up with her math.
My other daughter had asked me if she could get tutoring from Linda in a certain area. Since then she is now mastering the area and is progressing well in her advanced math class.
Linda is great tutor. Very patient with constant encouragement for the student she is teaching. Thank you Linda for all your help.
Linda has helped my 6 Grader in Math. Thanks to her, my daughter became confident at Math and it shows as excellent scores.Linda is always on time and works hard to help student's progress. There are lots of tutors you can find but Linda is the one who knows what's her job and she's good at it. I highly recommend her.
In the past three months I have had so much fun with Linda in working to improve my ability to speak Chinese. We have focused on speaking but she is willing and able to adjust to your individual needs. University educated in the U.S., UC Berkeley, she is "with it" and integrated into the fabric of contemporary life of Silicon Valley and will be able to help you. Her family is from Taiwan and of course her mandarin is fluent. Her accent is standard and she is able to help you with traditional or simplified character reading.
She will certainly make your chinese language learning experience an enjoyable and good one!
It has been a great pleasure teaching you Mandarin. I am glad that you are having fun with our lessons because I really enjoy our meeting every time. You have improved so much over the past 3 months and I hope you feel that too. Thank you for writing me such wonderful review. I really appreciate it. See you on Thursday.
Linda is a fantastic tutor. She is patient, kind and quietly spoken, yet challenging and hardworking at the same time. She has been tutoring my 9 year old with her 4th grade Math. My daughter was finding Math very difficult and overwhelming and within just a few sessions with Linda she is already more confident and feeling like she is much more capable. She even said 'that was fun Mum!' after a lesson- which I never thought I would hear from her after a Math class!! Linda communicates well with her, correcting and helping her when she is finding it hard, and praising and encouraging her when she does well and is improving. She has given her great little tips and techniques to help her in class too. I would highly recommend her!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a native Chinese Mandarin speaker. This is my first language and I am fluent in speaking, reading and writing. I have tutored hi-tech professionals in Mandarin to help them improving their connections and communications with China manufacturers. I have also started tutoring young kids in learning Mandarin as the demand increases. I am a passionate and fun tutor who knows how to deal with different personalities and is especially good with kids.
I am a UC Berkeley graduate with a Computer Science degree. I have tutored many elementary students (k-6) in all elementary school subjects but focusing on Math during my 4 college years.
After having my own kids, I was a frequent teaching assistant in their elementary classrooms for 6 years where I gained the valuable experience of tailoring my teaching style to fit different needs. I taught kids who struggled in writing the basic writing structure and how to be descriptive and specific about what they write. For kids who struggled in math, I translated math problems from words and numbers to visual graphs whenever possible to help kids understand the concepts better. I used various games to help kids learn history and science. I really enjoyed working with kids and helping them grow and improve.
I am a passionate and fun tutor. Your kids will have fun with me while improving their grades.
I have extensive experience in working with elementary school kids on improving their Math skills. I teach them not only the basic fundamental computational skills but also the techniques of translating word problems into graphs or visible imageries so that the relation of the given information is clearly understood.
I have tutored elementary school and middle school kids for more than 6 years and study skills are always a major part of my teaching. These important skills, to name a few, include time management, priority setting, test-taking, notes-taking, content outlining and workload balancing. I have taught kids how to prioritize their work based on due date and grading weight, how to plan ahead and learn divide and conquer techniques. I have also taught students when studying for a test, as they read through the material, how to sense what questions are most likely to appear on the test so that they can better prepare for it. I help students establish a quiet working environment and a study routine that fit their individual needs so that they can carry on in the future. My goal is to help my students become successful in schools.
