First I “check in” with the student to see where they are and what they need help with. I am knowledgeable about different learning styles and preferences and if I am able to determine that a particular student is stronger with learning visually rather than verbally, or vice versa, I can alter my tutoring style accordingly. For example, I use drawing pictures and graphs to explain concepts, instead of just describing them verbally. I am patient with students who need repeated explanations of concepts. After determining where the student needs help, I am able to explain the concepts and follow-up to make sure the student understands.
I have successfully tutored students in math at the community college level. When the student brings in worksheets, I go over the first problem or two, explaining the concepts and procedures needed to solve the problems. Then I watch the team member do the next problems to see if she has understood the concepts and procedures being taught.
Also, when the team member has taken a test or exam, we go over the incorrect answers to see what mistakes were made and re-emphasize the correct way to solve the problem. I also will explain to my students about preparing for exams, and what to do before, during and after an exam.

I just completed a course titled Applied Statistics for Psychology. In the beginning I had big fears concerning this course. I was very fortunate to find a tutor close to where I live through WyzAnt, her name is Jennifer B. She really came through for me with flying colors to make it her mission to help me to succeed in this course. Jennifer came to my rescue and into my home twice a week for nine weeks straight, and she is always punctual with our sessions. It was comforting having Jennifer by my side checking my homework, answering my questions, as well as sitting through a whole hour of online seminars discussing applied statistics for psychology each of the nine weeks that she came to my home. I am really impressed with Jennifer due to the fact that she knew all there was to know about statistics and more. It’s one thing to "know your stuff", but effectively explaining it to someone who has questions about it is another thing. Jennifer has great communication skills and does very well at explaining the results of my statistical analysis. Jennifer is very professional, she is patient but firm, polite, smart, helpful, and encouraging. It has been ten weeks and now the course is completed. I received an outstanding "A" for my final grade and I owe a lot of this success to Jennifer's assistance. I am really glad that my first experience with a tutor coming to my home was Jennifer. I will not hesitate to request for Jennifer B. as my next tutor, because she is the best!
Stats and helped me out.
Worked on T-tests alpha variance null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis. She did a good job explaining the terms to me.
I want to start off by saying that I hate math. It's never clicked with me and when it came time to take my statistics class in college before I could transfer to a university, it took me a couple tries. The first two times, I had a really hard time keeping up with the class along with my other classes, and the material was difficult for me to understand. This summer, I enrolled in another statistics class, which thanks to Jennifer was the last one I would ever have to take. The first week of the course, I knew that I needed a tutor to literally walk me through the course. I found Jennifer on WyzAnt and was eager to get started. I must say, every meeting was extremely productive. Jennifer is extremely patient and somehow is able to explain the material in a way that nobody else could, to the point where once I left the session I felt like I had a full understanding of the section or chapter that we were working on. Throughout the course, I spent a lot of time with Jennifer and she's the best - she's funny and extremely intelligent and very dependable. I can't think of taking another math class without having her help. Without her, I honestly do not think I would have passed the course in the fast-paced setting that the summer classes are in. If you're looking for a tutor, Jennifer's the best there is.
Jennifer was punctual. She taught me more in 2 hours than my Statistics professor taught me in 5 weeks. She explained things in a way that I could understand (I'm a returning student and have never appreciated math). I am working with her again.
Jennifer was very easy to get along with. She explained things well and helped me understand topics that I didn't understand from my teacher. She is very knowledgeable in math so she was able to help me raise my statistics test scores. Also, her calculator skills were great help to me since we used it a lot for the problems in class. I would recommend Jennifer to anyone who has trouble understanding math because she finds ways to teach you according to your learning style. I'm a visual learner so she drew examples of the problems and it helped me really fully understand what needed to be done.
I think 'tutor' might be a sub par way to describe Jennifer. She's more like gifted teacher. Jennifer is able to diagnose a student's situation quickly, make recommendations to him or her, and work with the student to achieve a goal together. She offered great encouragement to our son, who's in 10th grade/ He struggles in his writing and I think the lesson review with him really helped him understand the paper he was writing and a better way to organize his thoughts. We're looking forward to more 'classes' for our son with Jennifer.
Jennifer is very easy to get ahold of (important!). She returns phone calls/emails quickly. She is patient and has helped my son in his Stats class. Though I haven't had too much interaction with her personally, my son likes her and so I would recommend her.
My son needed to pass Statistics to graduate and go on to a four-year program. Jennifer Brooks was his tutor. At the end of the statistics class he got a "B" which was a big improvement over what he received in the previous attempt. Jennifer was the best tutor among the four math tutors my son used in high school and at community college. Jennifer figured out his learning style and matched her tutoring to exactly what he needed. She helped him with his constant anxiety as well. I can't recommend her highly enough to you! BTW Her rates were extremely reasonable.
My kid likes Jennifer a lot. She is very patient and flexible. She is always willing to help and will come to us even in short notice. She explained the problem in detail and always made sure my kid understand it before going on to the next one.
Jennifer is a very good tutor. She helped me catch up in my Statistics class where I was constantly getting F's in my quizzes. While I unfortunately did not pass my class, that was due to hiring her really late in the quarter, just four weeks before the class ended. She did a great job explaining the concepts about the rules in Statistics. She has a very flexible schedule and as long as you clearly lay out what you don't understand, you will be getting your money's worth!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have served as Assistant Treasurer for the League of Women Voters and am available to tutor classes in beginning and nonprofit accounting.

I passed the Algebra II Tutor qualifying exam given by the Foothill College Pass the Torch program.
I have experience tutoring students with Asperger's syndrome and am very familiar with the condition. I am also familiar with the different types of thinking patterns within the autism spectrum. First there is the Photo Realistic Visual Thinking Object Visualizers, who tend to be poor at algebra. Second are the Pattern Thinkers - Spatial Visualizer Music and Math, who tend to be poor at reading. Third are the Verbal Facts/Language Translation thinkers, who tend to be poor at drawing. Fourth are the Auditory Thinkers, who tend to have fragmented visual perception. There can also be mixtures of these thinking types. In my work with students I will try to determine which of these thinking types the student displays so I can build on their strengths.
While working with one student who had been diagnosed with Asperger's, I was able to help him raise his grade in statistics from an F to a B, but more importantly, I was able to figure out his learning style and match my tutoring to what he needed, as well as help him cope with his anxiety.
I have a good knowledge of geography and I have taken several college-level courses in Geographic Information Systems(GIS).
I have extensive experience creating PowerPoint presentations. I once completed a series of presentations on juvenile law for a juvenile law attorney who also taught classes in juvenile law for social workers. She loved my slides so much she was literally jumping up and down with excitement while she was reviewing my slides.
I have a thorough knowledge of pre-algebra concepts. I first studied pre-algebra in seventh grade and did very well in the class. To increase the chance of success for the student, I use both verbal and visual methods to explain the concepts.
I have completed numerous college-level psychology courses including general psychology, social psychology, biopsychology, human development and human sexuality, as well as research methods and psychology statistics. I also have extensive knowledge of autism spectrum disorders and recently gave a presentation on autism to the psychology club at Foothill College.
I have a BA in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
I have tutored students with the special needs of Asperger's syndrome, high-functioning autism and nonverbal learning disorders and am very familiar with all three conditions. Recently I worked with a student who had been diagnosed with Asperger's. I was able to help him raise his grade in statistics from an F to a B, but more importantly, I was able to figure out his learning style and match my tutoring to what he needed, as well as help him cope with his anxiety.
I am currently a graduate student in statistics at CSU East Bay in Hayward.
I have successfully tutored students in statistics ranging in academic level from high school through graduate school. I served as a peer tutor in statistics for two quarters at Foothill College through their Pass the Torch program. One student I worked with had previously failed the statistics class but received 100% on a quiz and 8 out of 10 on his statistics midterm after I began tutoring him.
I have an extensive vocabulary and once served as the word-of-the-day coordinator for my office.
I am an expert writer. I have written everything from essays, poetry, and short stories to academic research papers in psychology and sociology to legal documents. I have always been highly praised for my work. Recently, I helped a 10th grade boy complete an English essay on The Great Gatsby as well as several biology essays.
