Rachel is an explorer of new experiences. She has a BA in French from Andrews University, MI, and a Masters of Arts in International Multicultural Education from the University of San Francisco. Additionally, she has received additional certificates in TESOL and Reading and Literacy Specialization. Rachel has always been interested in languages and literacy and has explored ways of how to help students discover their voice and authority through reading and writing successfully. Her interests in language, culture and education had led her to study in France and to become a Fulbright Scholar with the University of San Francisco in 2004. Through the Fulbright Scholarship foundation, she traveled and fulfilled research with De La Salle University in Manila, Philippines. This experience opened her eyes as to how critical it is to create resources for newly arrived immigrants and language learners. Rachel is fluent in English, French and Tagalog. She has taught multiple levels of French, Language Arts, Academic Reading and Writing and ESL in the high school and college levels and is currently working at UC Irvine as an ESL Instructor and with the Los Angeles Writing Project as an ELL specialist.
Rachel specializes in helping you improve your pronunciation, accent reduction, Grammar, academic writing, reading comprehension and fluency, improving study and research skills, and reading challenges, improving listening, speaking and academic presentations. She also specializes in second and third language acquisition, TOEFL, IELTS, and academic test taking improvement. She has trained teachers to teach ESL, Reading and Writing and can help you succeed in mastering your topics related to Reading, Language Arts, and the Sciences.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
