All my life I have had a love for languages and accents of any kind! Spanish became my obsession in high school and I was lucky enough to have spent a year in Mexico for a study abroad opportunity. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Master's in Spanish and Latin American Literature, have a Certificate in French, and have also studied Italian extensively. I have found that language opens up so many doors for communication with people from all over the world. Without a common tongue, I would have missed out on opportunities to meet so many friends.
I have taught both Spanish and English for about five years to adults, and have enjoyed watching their language skills bloom. I did a short stint teaching Spanish to children from preschool to elementary school age, and I have completed classes for a single subject credential in Spanish. I have also tutored in French and would love to get started with Italian as well. I love teaching languages, because the process can be so enjoyable and fun! It's all about communication, and I love a learning process that is relaxed and free from intimidation!
If you would like to communicate from people from all over the world, I would love to help you along in the learning process. I am usually available Monday through Friday and sometimes on Saturdays. Helped me to finish my Spanish homework and then we will work on speaking Spanish. Let me know there are meet ups that speak Spanish.
Lindsay was able to jump right in to assess where my child was at, then to help him understand the new concepts he is studying and feel confident moving ahead. Rather than wait for feedback later from a teacher, she is able to catch small misunderstandings and correct them immediately. She is also is helping him develop the skill of paying attention to the details rather than rushing through the work. I am very pleased--the time and money spent is well worth it. This is a blessing not just in improving a Spanish grade but also in being able to communicate in Spanish and in learning study skills for other subjects. Now that we are on track with newer material they are reviewing past work to fill-in gaps.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am an native English speaker and I have taught English to adults for about five years.
I studied Italian as part of my Master's degree in Spanish and Latin American Literature. I loved it so much I spent a month abroad in 2006 in Sicily, and have continued studying ever since. I have also formed a small Italian group that meets weekly.
