About Lydia

Dear future students and parents,

I am a teacher and an artist who will assess your skills and listen to individual needs. I will develop a study plan that will help you achieve a better understanding of your content. It is my goal that you feel confident in your abilities.
It takes time to nurture your talent, and I will show you how to develop your artistic eye. I can show you how to draw people, animals, or directly from nature. If your desire is learn how to how to paint with watercolors or acrylics, I will show you many techniques.

If you are a student who is currently taking art history and is having trouble with how to prepare for exams or write about art, I can help you. I have been a Docent for Long Beach Museum of Art where I gave tours and conducted workshops for Long Beach Unified School District and to the Long Beach Community. Learning about art and describing art requires applying visual art vocabulary. I can help you improve your current grades in art history and help you develop that critical eye for interpreting art.

For parents whose child is struggling with reading, math, or writing I will work with your child by reviewing math and English concepts. I will use many teaching strategies that will reinforce content vocabulary which will help your child understand key requirements for their current grade level.

Sincerely,

Miss Lydia

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drawing

I earned a BA in studio arts from California State University, Long Beach. I have taught drawing and painting to K-12 students in our public school system. I have worked as a freelance illustrator and continue to refine my skills by attending workshops or classes.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been a substitute teacher for grades K-12 for almost two years. I reinforce core subjects, tutor and assess learning strategies that help students comprehend key elements within a unit. I taught kindergarten for an accelerated private school at the Huntington School in Long Beach. I recently received my Master's Teacher Permit in Early Childhood thru the California Department of Teacher Education which certifies my past teaching experiences in early childhood.
I currently hold a teaching credential for K-12 which certifies me to teach in a public schools. I currently develop myself as a teaching professional by studying and preparing for a supplementary multi-subject teaching credential.

English

I am a credentialed single subject K-12 teacher in art education. I have a BA in art, I have a master's teacher credential in early childhood education, and I am certified to work with ESL and ELD students. I have two years experience teaching in public schools.

Handwriting

My high school English teacher was a calligrapher who practice his lettering everyday. Mr. Keidash taught me basic italics with using a fountain pen. Mr. Jones, my high school art teacher, gave me my first lettering set. When I became an art student at Santa Monica College, I continued to develop my lettering skills by enrolling in lettering classes. My lettering skills earned me two freelance jobs for Santa Monica College and for Long Beach Museum of Art.

Painting

I have a BA in studio art from CSULB with an emphasis in illustration. I have post graduate work in Art Education with a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Art Education. I have taught drawing and painting at Jordan High School.

Study Skills

I am a credential teacher for K-12. I currently work as a substitute teacher who reinforces math, reading, and writing. I earned a studio art degree, a credential in art education, a liberal arts degree, and a master's teacher permit in early childhood. My education and my work experience have provided an opportunity to meet many students with a variety of learning needs.
