Hello students and parents!
My name is John and I am an experienced math tutor who strives to help you succeed. I graduated from CSUN with a BA in mathematics in 2009. My passion and enthusiasm for math is reflected in my teaching, and I try to make each session interesting and fun! I have experience working as a private math tutor and at an established math tutoring company. I am extremely patient and understanding, with an adaptable teaching style based on the student's needs.
I specialize in high school math subjects like Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Algebra 2/Trigonometry, Precalculus and Calculus. I can also tutor college math subjects like Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebra, Differential Equations, and more. My teaching strategy is to emphasize the importance of dedication and hard work, highlight the fundamental building blocks for each course in order to understand the concepts, and boost the student's confidence by teaching valuable study techniques, providing positive feedback, and being supportive and understanding.
I offer flexible rates and scheduling, and can travel anywhere in the Long Beach area.
I look forward to hearing from you!

John genuinely likes math and is good at explaining the material to me. He is patient and takes his time, which makes all the difference because I have a learning disability. Before John, I got a very low score on my last quiz. On the following quiz I earned a 9/10 thanks to John. The mistakes I made were silly little mistakes and not due to lack of understanding the material. John is helping me succeed! I will definitely be using him as a tutor again! Thanks John!
John has tutored my 16 year old son Zach for about 5 months and I've seen a definite improvement in Zach's algebra grades. John is very patient and encouraging and both Zach and I think he's great. Thanks, John!
Our 17 year old daughter is taking summer school as an incoming senior, retaking Algebra II: an intense accelerated course! She was struggling, so I found this website and entered my zip code and there were 6 tutors in my area. I emailed 4 and one tutor came that evening, but could not help us daily for three weeks. We found John. He is very cordial and friendly and seemed to understand our personal situation. He has been over 3 times so far. For our daughter, once a week would not help. Thank you, John, for your professionalism and helping the grade only get better.
John is able to explain in detail the steps for how the answer arrived. He has patience and always asks the student questions.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
