I was a great student growing up, and can help you or your child be great too! I know what it takes to study and remember what you learned and apply it to various situations. And on top of all that, I've had to do well despite having ADHD and a ridiculously slow reading speed!
I can help in math, science, and English. I am able to break the subjects down into manageable chunks for the student to demystify them and make them relate-able for the student to understand and learn.
I have VAST experience in film and video production. I spent more than a decade directing short films and music videos. I can help the aspiring filmmaker become better at their craft and learn how to really make a visual story.
I've been a tournament chess player since I was 12 and have taught chess at an elementary level. I've also written an e-book on chess for beginners, and even ran a popular chess blog. I will help the chess student go from learning the names of the pieces and how they move all the way up to being able to think ahead and know what their opponents will do several moves ahead.
I'm an optioned, award winning screenwriter. I've written an e-book on how to write a screenplay. I'm also a published poet and freelance content writer. In short, I can help with anything writing related. Getting the stories from my head to the paper is what I excel at, and I can help a student do so as well by teaching ways to plan ahead and find the right words.
I have been singing my entire life and won MANY awards in high school and college through vocal music, and have taught private vocal lessons. I will teach the music student everything from creating proper sounds with their mouth, to finding and keeping the correct tone through listening and breathing techniques.
I've been a cook in numerous restaurants, although now I just cook for myself or to show off for others. I can help a future chef hone their craft from following recipes to creating their own and having great knife skills.
I used to be a professional tax preparer. I know what can and can't be done on individual tax forms and can help a student learn the tricks to save themselves money.
You see? LOTS of experience that I can use to tutor in a wide array of subjects. I can display the information to my students in a way that they can learn. Every child learns differently, and I work to find the best way for them. I was a great student growing up, and can help you or your child be great too! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a tournament level chess player since I was 12 years old (although, admittedly, my USCF rating is still low enough that I'm considered to be a "beginning" player). I've written chess blogs for a chess company in the UK, and recently written an e-book on chess. Also, my high school job was teaching chess to elementary students.
I've been cooking since I was a child. I've been a cook for multiple restaurants, creating many dishes from scratch. Now I use the skills mostly to show off (to girls), but I can also teach children, I believe, the basic skills in cooking as well as a few yummy dishes.
I am an optioned screenwriter. I was also a filmmaker for over 10 years, creating short films and music videos. I can pass my filmmaking knowledge along to the next generation.
I was in the drama club all through high school. I worked backstage on productions at the local production theater in my hometown. I was a music teacher at a summer theater arts camp. I can help students learn how to get into character, memorize their lines, learn singing parts, and even find out about what goes on behind the scenes such as direction, lights, set building, and more.
I was a video director (short films and music videos) for over 10 years, and won numerous film festival awards. I was an editor for a TV show, and have been a PA for numerous feature films and TV shows. I'm also an optioned, award-winning screenwriter. In short, I have a TON of video experience and can teach students how to make videos of their own.
I have been singing my entire life. In high school and college, I was in every choir I was allowed to be in and won many awards and scholarships with my singing. I used to teach a music class at a summer theater arts camp.
