About Jeffery

I love tutoring mathematics. Tutoring mathematics to unique, gifted or challenged students is what I was born to do. I have been tutoring mathematics since 2011. I have experience tutoring students at all different levels of understanding and can adapt to most learning style or vice versa as needed. I do not tutor any other subject. All of my accumulated hours of tutoring have been in mathematics.

Over the years I have been tutoring, I have had consistent positive rating and reviews. The ratio of reviews and ratings I have with respect to the number of students I tutor is exceptionally good.

One of my goals is to accumulate over 10,000 hours of documented math tutoring. I am committed to continuing to learn and becoming excellent at what I do. I want to help your student become the best mathematics student they can be.

I also have experience as a calculus and pre-calculus instructor at the University of Oklahoma, and as a tutor in the mathematics lab at Oklahoma City Community College.

My education is in the Bachelor of Science in Mathematics degree from the fantastic University of Oklahoma. The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics program at the University of Oklahoma is very rigorous and demanding and I am proud to be an alumni. I also have a minor in Environmental Studies, and an Associate of Arts degree from Oklahoma City Community College.

Currently, I am available to tutor Pre-Algebra, Algebra(s), Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Business and Engineering Calculus (all in the sequences) Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Logic, Discrete Math, and Introduction to Abstract Algebra.

Some extras:

Introductory Topology / Introduction to Analysis (first semester).
I charge a reduced rate for these courses since it typically takes about three times as long to do the problems.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

I do ask that you let me know the specific topic in your subject 24 hours before your session (if you are in a course).

EXTREME / SEVERE WEATHER:

If there is a severe weather advisory I consider our session automatically cancelled. I will let you know that I will not attend. You will not be assessed a fee for not attending. We will reschedule.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is the beginning of your journey into the world of mathematics. You will learn about "x." Where is that "x," and why is it always lost? Algebra 1 is like solving miniature puzzles. Each puzzle comes with its own rules. Studying Algebra 1 helps you learn the rules that are the foundation of high school and college mathematics.

Algebra 2

Continuing from Algebra 1, the basic fundamentals of Algebra will be used throughout your mathematical career. Functions, graphs, factoring, and previews of linear algebra, set theory, and discrete mathematics can be found in most Algebra 2 books. Also, a bit of trig. You will want to master these skills if you plan on continuing to Trigonometry, Pre-Calc, and Calculus.

Calculus

I have experience tutoring AP Calculus AB/BC, Business Calculus 1&2, and Engineering Calculus 1-4 and 1-3 at the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City Community College, University of Central Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University and Rose State. I have also taught two first semester courses in Calculus and Analytical Geometry with Logic. I am familiar with many syllabi and professors.

Calculus is an amazing collaboration of many brilliant mathematicians. It begins by solving the "tangent problem," by introducing the concept of the limit in differential calculus, and continues to solve the "area problem," in integral calculus. In Calculus 3, we learn about different coordinate systems, infinite series, we stop briefly to inspect conic sections and their properties and move on to vector functions in the plane and in space. I can tutor Calculus 1, 2, and 3.

Differential Equations

I have been tutoring Ordinary Differential Equations for several years now at the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City Community College, University of Central Oklahoma, Rose State and Oklahoma State University. I am familiar with many syllabi and professors.

Differential Equations have various methods for which they can be solved. It is all a matter of learning to recognize what type of expression we have, and from there, the problem points us in the right direction. I have tutored analytic, geometric, and numerical methods of finding solutions. I have studied differential equations as a required course for my mathematics degree at the University of Oklahoma. Tutoring differential equations requires that we solve lots of problems!

Discrete Math

Discrete Mathematics is a first step into the world of advanced mathematics. In tutoring this course, I use a variety of different approaches in order to familiarize you with the ever elusive idea of writing proofs, understanding propositional logic, set theory and counting.

Linear Algebra

In pursuing my degree in mathematics at the University of Oklahoma I have studied Linear Algebra (3333) as a required course. I have also read the subject and attended many online lectures on my own.

Logic

My qualifications in mathematics and experience tutoring allow me to tutor logic, one of my favorite subjects. Tutoring logic allows me to teach my students to think analytically. The methods I utilize are constructing truth tales, Venn diagrams and argument analysis. I have a degree in Diversified Studies and am currently pursuing a degree in Mathematics at the University of Oklahoma.

Prealgebra

Pre-Algebra is where the ground work is laid. We talk about inverse operations. We talk about doing things to "both sides" of the equation. We are introduced to the rectangular coordinate system. It is foreign at first, but most important.

Precalculus

PreCalculus is a further review of algebra that is sometimes (usually) bolstered with trigonometry. In PreCalculus, we learn more about functions, the log, e, trigonometric functions, simplifying expressions and factoring, sequences, series, and the beginnings Calculus 1, namely limits. You will learn all about the life of functions. You will learn how to transform them, how to reflect them, and how to calculate their rates of change. These are important concepts for Calculus 1.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is also a favorite of mine. It is really mind blowing how beautiful it is. In trigonometry we learn about periodic functions and derive how they come about on the unit circle. We then learn how to take the trig functions and make them applicable off of the unit circle. We learn about the inverse trig functions and derive the laws of sines and cosines. We will see the law of cosines again in the dot product when we play with vectors in Calculus. While most Trig courses don't require it, it is not a bad idea to take a look at the hyperbolic trig functions while we are here.

Knowledgeable, professional and friendly!

We've been through several tutors and this is the first time my daughter has left saying "I understood what we were doing today, he taught me why things are done the way they are rather than just showing me answers." We asked Jeffery for help with college intermediate Algebra. This is the first time in all the years of struggling that she felt some confidence, that's only after one hour of tutorin
