About Fatima

Hello, and thank you for visiting my profile!

I have consistently been one of the highest ranked tutors on WyzAnt- nationally and locally. The reason is simple: I am truly passionate about my students; I truly care for my students on a level that may surprise some (in a good way)- I want you to reach your goals and achieve success just as much as you want to reach your goals. I bring to the table many years of tutoring and mentoring experience, and therefore confidence in my ability to connect with students and deliver information effectively. If you let me tutor you, I guarantee that you will feel truly cared for and will also understand the material better. Also, I guarantee that you will enjoy our tutoring sessions!

As your tutor, I will first look more holistically at you, and then look at the subject you need assistance on. I am interested in your past educational endeavors, struggles and successes, as well as your interests and goals. I feel that this entire picture will help me "see" you, and therefore will allow me to help you most effectively. I also feel that a student will learn best from me only once they trust me. I want to not only serve as your tutor, but also as your coach who never stops believing in you. Please read my student testimonials as they will attest to the quality of my tutoring.

I graduated with a 3.9 GPA, holding a degree in Biology and Psychology. My liberal arts background exposed me to, and led me to be interested in, a variety of subject areas. I also achieved a lot of advanced, in-depth science knowledge from attending medical school. As a result of my diverse educational background, in terms of location, methodology of teaching, and content, I grew to be fond of teaching a plethora of subjects. Oftentimes, I start off working with a student in one subject, but am able to help them effectively in pretty much any subject or standardized test. Yes, there is the saying "Jack of all trades, master of none," but my subject credentials and student feedback will prove to you that I can truly be the "master" teacher for you in almost any subject. I guarantee that you won't find a tutor so well-versed in teaching as many subjects more effectively that even a niche tutor, specializing in one or two subject areas, could. The advantage of this is that I truly understand the student and the way they learn. Here is a sampling of the subjects/tests I teach (please check out my over 48 certified subjects): Biology, Chemistry, Geometry, Precalculus, English, Psychology, SAT, ACT, SSAT/ISEE, and CBEST, to name a few.

Another valuable strength of mine is the efficiency of my tutoring. I truly feel that if you spend one hour with me, it is worth as many as five or even ten hours with another tutor. Additionally, I truly care about you and your success and am always honest with you about how often we should meet, which varies from student to student. Our tutoring sessions will be pre-planned, structured, organized, engaging and high quality. Try me out for one hour- if you are not satisfied, you will not be charged for that time.

More recently, online tutoring is a highly effective and resourceful method of tutoring that has allowed me to reach students across the nation. Please explore this opportunity that WyzAnt offers as well to see if it is something that you would like to try! Being part of the WyzAnt community has been an unbelievable experience for me, and I feel blessed and honored to have been able to make a difference in my students' lives. I hope you will give me a chance to let me make a difference in yours. Thank you!

Fatima replied on 9/7/2012

Thank you for the wonderful review Gail! I always tell my students, the more work and practice you put in between our sessions, the higher your SAT or ACT score will go up. What I have found with my students is: put in the work, and there is no limit as to how high your score can go. Tell me what your goal is and, as a team, we will achieve it. It's all about learning and practicing the strategies, and getting into the testmaker's mind. Often, it is hard to do SAT/ACT homework amidst schoolwork, but it pays off!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I've taken the CBEST, and have passed with flying colors. I've also taken the two General Science CSET exams, and the CSET Biology exam, and did extremely well on both exams. I can teach you the newest, most up-to-date material, and strategies to ace this exam! I am also a great writer, and help you acquire the skills necessary to write fantastic essays!

College Counseling

I have gone through high school, undergraduate and graduate school, and therefore have first-hand experience with the ins and outs of the application process. More useful, however, is the fact that since I have become a private tutor, I have worked with several students in the college application process. I am great at researching, discussing ideas, and brainstorming. I can create a list of deadlines, and will motivate you to stick by it. I have helped create immaculate personal statements, and have even written recommendation letters for some of my long-term tutees! My student feedback regarding college counseling speaks for itself. I look forward to helping you during this exciting time, and hope to help you achieve your highest goals! I promise, that with my help, you will put your best foot forward.

I took Genetics both as a Biology major, and also while attending medical school, where I gained more advanced Genetics knowledge. In addition, I have performed extensive Genetics research during my undergraduate education, so I understand the subject in an in-depth level. Genetics has also always been a personal passion of mine, so I constantly keep up-to-date on new developments! I look forward to helping you enjoy Genetics!

I have tutored a couple of students so far on the ISEE and SSAT. I can tutor lower, middle and upper level. I am very aware of the newest material and strategies to do well on these exams, and have tutored students to success. I can tutor both the Math and Verbal sections effectively. Get ready to get into the school of your choice!

I have taken a Microbiology course both in my Biology major, and also a more clinically focused course in medical school. Both courses included a lab component. With all my experience tutoring Biology, and more specific Biology courses, I feel like I am fully equipped to tutor Microbiology!

Organic Chemistry

I have taken both General Chemistry and a competitive Organic Chemistry class with other pre-health (medicine, dental, etc.) majors. I did well in the class, and I also touched upon some Organic Chemistry concepts in my Biochemistry, Genetics and Physiology classes while in medical school. Overall, I have a thorough understanding of the concepts taught in Organic Chemistry.

I have a very strong science background. I was a Biology major in college, and then attended medical school. In medical school, I took an in-depth course on pharmacology, in which I did very well! As with all the other subjects I tutor, I have a thorough, and clear understanding of the material. This is especially important with pharmacology, as many students fall into the trap of simply memorizing drugs. It is important to truly understand the science and physiology behind the study of drugs, instead of simply memorizing. Also, because this is a topic that includes a lot of information, it is important to be able to organize the information, and, more importantly perhaps, scope out the essential details that you are required to know. I am a master of all these techniques, and am very qualified to effectively teach Pharmacology! I look forward to getting you excited about Pharmacology!

I have had about nine years of piano lessons (practical and theory). I've trained with some of the best teachers. I've passed up to Grade 8 in the Royal Conservatory of Music Series, and up to Grade 5 in Royal Conservatory of Music Theory series. I've played in numerous prestigious recitals, competitions and venues. I also played piano for my jazz band in high school. My most memorable experience was playing Rachmaninoff's Concerto # 3 in Carnegie Hall. Just as with my other subjects, I am a patient, caring and engaged teacher!

I have such a passion for playing and teaching piano, and have taught students very effectively. I look forward to passing my love of music on to you!

Study Skills

Hello Students,

I believe good study skills are the key to success to anything and everything in life!!

Having been in a school environment for many years, I've come to master the art of effective studying. My mother says that, ever since I was old enough to go to school, I was always very good about doing homework on time. I would come home from school, and do my homework before playing, without my parents even having to remind me. This carried through to elementary school, and high school. Proof of being a highly effective student? I was involved in numerous clubs in high school (including being a competitive athlete all 3 seasons), and still graduated top 5 in my class!

These habits continued in college. I graduated as the top senior in my major (Biology), while on the track and cross country team, and being a leader in many other clubs and activities. These good study skills helped me thrive in medical school also.

What have I learned? Attitude is key to help you achieve your goals! You need to have a positive outlook, be resilient in spite of difficulties, and set high goals for yourself. Time management is also of utmost importance to achieve anything, and as you can see from my previous experiences, I have mastered time management well.

There's a lot more I could write about my techniques, so email me! :)

I have tutored nursing students to very high, competitive scores. I feel that I can teach this test well, because I have mastered all of the subjects that are tested on the TEAS, through my pre-med and medical school coursework, and also by working through a lot of nursing pre-requisites and nursing courses with numerous students. I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

Track & Field

Hello runners or prospective runners!

I'm very excited to be on this site, because it means that it can potentially link me to athletes that I can pass my passion of running on to!

I have been a star, competitive athlete all my life. I remember running in races as early as second grade. I joined my track and cross country teams while in grade school, and started doing well against class mates and my region there. In high school, I received many honors: State Group Champion in Cross-country, First Team All- County, and All- League Honors, among others. I was among the top runners in my state, and also the North East region of the US.

While in college, I joined track and cross-country as well. I set the 10KM record in 2005, which still hasn't been broken. I continue to run, and place well in competitive races in California, which is where I reside now. My passion for running is still very much alive! I am willing to coach beginner, intermediate and advanced runners.

I look forward to coaching you, and getting you excited about running!
