About Jordan

I have been tutoring for 7+ years in many subjects. I have tutored Spanish, math (pre algebra, algebra), and general homework help. I do my best to make the material relatable to the students. I am very patient, as I understand exactly what it's like to be frustrated with a certain subject. I am also very resourceful. If I am unsure of an answer (there's no way to always know everything), I know where to find the information. Whether that be in their textbook, online, or from a friend who I know is an expert. I will do my best to always figure out the correct answer.

I am also a very honest and hard worker. I don't come in just trying to get session over with. I truly get joy out of helping others achieve in their education, or in anything they are trying to succeed in. It's easy as a student or a tutor to get frustrated, but I remain patient and help the student understand the material, instead of just getting the correct answer.

I played basketball in middle school through varsity on high school, and intramurals in Undergrad. I was the captain of my varsity basketball team, and have a very hardworking attitude. I enjoy pushing athletes to be the best they can be, and teaching them new techniques. I am very motivating, and will help basketball players to get to the next level.

I have Salsa danced for the last 3 years, consistently. I was the President of the Salsa club at my University, and have enjoyed taking lessons at studios multiple times a week. While in the salsa club, I was responsible for teaching the steps to anyone from beginner to intermediate. I social dance every week and continue to learn more and teach others.

I am a Graduate student at SLU currently, and have some open times during the week. I would love to help out. Please feel free to contact me and we can get something started :)

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I am a native English speaker. I have also learned another language myself (Spanish) through taking classes, and immersing myself in the culture. I understand the patience it takes, and the different strategies to learning a new language. I have also tutored other languages for 5+ years.

Prealgebra

I excelled in Prealgebra when I took it in middle school. It has always been easy for me, and I am very good at explaining it in simple terms to others. Many of the students I have tutored have told me "If only my teacher explained it like you do, I would've understood it the first time". I like to try different approaches, as every student's mind works differently. I work hard to figure out which method works best for them.

Salsa Dancing

I first learned how to Salsa dance when I studied abroad in Costa Rica. I didn't take formal lessons at first, I just got out there and tried it! Then I came back to the US (California) and took formal lessons with my school's club as well as at the studio- almost 20 hours a week. I became President of the Salsa Club after one year, and then taught some classes! I have been dancing ever since, for the last 3 years. Now I mostly go out social dancing, and I love it! It's a big part of who I am and what I look forward to every week. I have brought many people to love the dance, and I would love to do the same for you!

Spanish

I am a native English speaker, however I majored in Spanish in college. I lived abroad in a Spanish speaking country for 6 months, and spoke mainly Spanish. Since I learned it through education (instead of being a native speaker), I understand how to teach it. I taught many of the native speakers in my classes, as well as have tutored in Spanish for 5+ years ages ranging from 5-30.
