About Diane

I have been teaching in public and private schools since 1992, grades K-8 (all subjects) plus high school history, geography, art and writing. I won't catch your fish for you, but I will teach you to fish on your own with fun and eye-opening examples. Additionally, I have three years' experience teaching all subjects with emotionally disturbed students in small classrooms, grades K-10. I am familiar with and have written/assessed goals as a certificated Education Specialist I for mild/moderate students, and can work with individualized education plans.

While evaluating for testing agencies, I scored essay exams for California teaching candidates as well as for students nation-wide in writing, social studies, communication arts and environmental science. I can help generally, but cannot divulge answers to exams or scoring methods, due to previous employment contracts. Basically, I can teach how to seek out the state objectives and study those in depth, and teach you how to improve your essay answers if these have been your challenge in passing exams.

My professional illustration experience in publications (Sacramento Magazine, California Journal), and in the teaching of art to children and adults (public and private schools, University of California Extension and Sierra College) will help me assess your needs and teach you formal art techniques, especially in drawing people, lettering homework projects, cropping photos, and creating graphic designs.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
