My tutoring experience began when I became an English Language Tutor for School on Wheel's in 2012. Our youngest students were kindergarten level while our oldest students were entering college.
Tutoring was a wonderful experience as I learned effective, long lasting English tutoring skills for beginners and older students. A great tutor inspires students and can improve student comprehension and/or performance in a short period of time.
When I am not tutoring, I substitute teach English for a local school district. Learning to read, write, and, or speak English can be fun! A willing student and a skilled tutor is the formula for success! I promise.
I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies from California State University Long Beach. My rigorous University Coursework, and classroom experience has prepared me to teach/tutor English as a Second Language (ESL.) I am also a proficient reading, writing, and vocabulary building teacher/tutor for students enrolled in elementary school as well as recent high school graduate level students.
I prepare and tailor each and every student session beforehand and maintain individual student progress reports that span the first through each subsequent lesson thereafter.
On our first meeting, I will challenge you to one or two different games or online lessons. This gives me an accurate idea of your knowledge and usage of English. Also, I encourage you to tell me what you would like from me.
Do you want to read (and better understand) English? Do you wish to write better? Are term papers or schoolwork a headache? In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I majored in Communication Studies and English at California State University Long Beach and learned practical methods for teaching students better use of the English language.
There are currently several innovative approaches to learning English that engage students of all ages; very young students entering kindergarten through high school graduation level and beyond. Creating greater understanding and familiarity of (correct) English usage is achieved using online and other exciting English language content.
As students observe patterns in everyday written and verbal English language, they experience greater confidence in their academic performance. A few hours of additional English practice can make a truly remarkable change in your student.
Please let me know if I can be of assistance.
I have extensive experience as a reading tutor for students starting kindergarten through middle and high school graduation/college. Years of working with students (and observing fellow teachers) have led me to conclude that exceptional tutors engage students with applications that both challenge and stimulate student interest in reading.
The teaching methods I currently use in the classroom that incorporate online reading resources have proven equally effective in the tutor-student setting.
A skilled tutor and a student who is willing to invest a little effort can make great advances in reading in a few short weeks.
