New York University (B.M. Voice Cum Laude)
The best teacher I had described the voice to me as working like a bagpipe. Your lungs are the bag, the larynx is your pipe. Just as a bagpiper fills up the bag with air, the more air, the easier it is to produce a steady sound. Many things get in the way of proper sound production... jaw tension, tongue tension, neck tension... which affect the shape of the wind pipe. Imagine if you took a hammer and bashed the end of a trumpet. The sound quality would be lessened because the bell would be flattened. Your vowels (shape of your mouth) affect the sound quality as well.
Through our vocal training, we'll explore how to properly produce sound via tension release. Different styles require manipulation of vowels and placement. What styles do you want to learn? Classical, Rock, Jazz, RnB, Pop, Musical Theatre? Work with a New York University (Top 10 in the country) trained teacher who will teach you what you want to learn, and the best ways to do it, with years of professional performing experience to help you get your career started. I also teach at Hope University (school for the intellectually disabled) as their vocal technique teacher, choir accompanist, teach piano and voice for the Irvine and Schools of Dance and Music schools in Manhattan, Redondo and Hermosa Beaches. My students range from 6 to 76. In addition to teaching, I've made a career of writing film score for various film productions companies around Los Angeles. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have taken over 20 years of private piano, and teach privately as an independent contractor for schools in Orange County and Manhattan Beach. I also run my own studio, and play piano for clients. I teach Hanon, Dozen and Day and the Faber Methods.
