I am trained to teach all aspects of Gold Prospecting and Mining as well as lecture/lab courses in Physical Geology and Geography, Astronomy and Physical Science. Prospecting classes, in particular, have attracted an unusually high number of very motivated certificate-seeking students since they quickly learn that the harder they work the more gold they find. Looking for a great interesting group activity? Gather your friends around your computer and learn how to prospect for gold online - then go out and prospect during the week together. In terms of teaching philosophy, I have a straightforward and reasonable expectation of what good tutoring can accomplish. I am convinced that anyone who knows anything well can Explain and Defend what they know in their own words. My desire is that you or your child will be "EDucated" with this kind of confidence in your understanding at the conclusion of our time together. I have taught geology, astronomy, physical science and physical geography lecture/lab freshman-level college classes at two California Community Colleges in person and online for more than 40 years - over 15,000 students have passed through my classroom doors. I teach from a critical thinking cause-and-effect approach, patterned after Sir Francis Bacon (founder of the scientific method) and Alfred Einstein's admonition to "always question". In fact if given one hour to solve a problem, Einstein would spend 50 minutes asking questions and then compose his answer in the last 10 minutes. I was commended to the Board of Trustees as the teacher who "inspires learning" by former students when I retired. I could not agree more with Albert Einstein's statement that "Education is not so much memorizing facts but instead training the mind how to think". I love to see the “light bulb” of understanding shine in the minds of my students when they discover that they can think. Learning how to think critically will change your life - I guarantee it! Former students have told me that my first lecture on c

I worked as a science Olympiad instructor for several years and glaciers and climate are my specialties.

Science

Astronomy,

Astronomy

I taught freshman Astronomy Lecture/Lab for 30+yrs and constructed observatory and telescope for use in Astronomy labs and for Astrophotography Lecture/Lab courses at Antelope Valley College. Also used 30" Stoney Ridge Observatory near Mount Wilson, CA. Observatory Guide at Griffith Observatory. On planning team of several planetariums and employed as planetarium technician and lecturer at Santa Monica College.
Geology,

Geology

I taught freshman Geology, Geography, Astronomy and Physical Science lecture and lab as well as Gold Prospecting and Mining lecture/lab/field courses for the Lode and Placer Gold Mining Certificate Programs at Antelope Valley College. Lifetime credential in Geology, Geography and Geophysics, Credential in Astronomy, and post graduate coursework in Environmental Engineering at UCLA and Mining at University of Arizona, Tucson.
Physical Science

Physical Science

I have taught physical science lecture and lab at antelope Valley College for about 27 out of my 37 years of tenure there. It was one of my favorite classes and really promotes some very interesting and fun activities to learn about science such as egg-toss contests to study impulse and launching rockets at night with flashing strobes in them to study acceleration and velocity from time lapse photos.
