About Adrianne

I absolutely love tutoring! Hopefully, you will also love having me tutor you!

I have been a teacher's assistant and tutored college students in the subjects of Intermediate and Advanced Statistics, Personality Psychology, and General Psychology. I have also tutored family members enrolled in elementary school in a variety of subjects. Teaching is more than just assisting a student with passing a test, but helping them really grasp the information and realize the worth of it.

In addition to being proficient in school subjects, I am a graduate student at California State University Northridge, and can offer post-secondary school experience, advice, inspiration, and ideas for those who would like additional, frank information.

As a woman who grew up in the Santa Clarita Valley with a physical disability, I am interested in working with all kinds of students, especially those who may have had atypical experiences.

Due to my physical limitations and the inaccessibility of most homes, meeting at a public facility would be best, unless your home is set up for a wheelchair already.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

College Counseling

Need help navigating the college bureaucratic system? Want ideas of how to choose colleges to apply to? Want someone to help with the application process? Looking for funding sources?

Around the middle of the semester, when college application due dates start creeping up on you, can be a very stressful time for you. Well, it was for me. Now that I've been through the process a few times, I am very clear on what colleges and universities are looking for in an applicant, and I have helped several of my peers with scheduling each step of the application process, revising their personal statements and CV's, and organizing and creating a presentation of their application materials.

In addition to assisting with the paperwork, I can also help you practice for interviews, that are often a part of the application process.

Elementary (K-6th)

As a presenter with two non-profit organizations, I have spoken to several groups of students, ages ranging from elementary school to graduate levels. I have a strong foundation of elementary level Math, English, Reading, Vocabulary, and Grammar. I have also had lots of experience with elementary Science.

I am rusty with Social Studies, but I am willing and eager to work through the subject with you!

General Computer

I have been using computers since 1986 (I was 2) and have a huge backlog of knowledge of how to use them (when they're working properly). Having successfully helped people, ranging from five years of age to 80, on using a computer I am very flexible with my teaching methods to fit your needs. My skills range from adding software and hardware, to using programs, to researching via the internet, to some troubleshooting, and communicating with customer service representatives on the phone.

If you would prefer, I can even tutor general computer skills online, using Skype. If you choose to be tutored online, 10% will be taken off of my hourly rate because I get to save on gas expenses!

Geometry

I have successfully tutored high school students in Geometry since 2011. It's great fun! It's like using a set of rules to figure out a puzzle! Geometry is definitely one of my favorite subjects to teach!

Microsoft Access

I have used Microsoft Access for many uses throughout the last couple of years. I am very familiar with the database aspect; however, I am still learning how to use the programming aspect of Microsoft Access, and using the program with other Microsoft Office programs.

Photography

I have taken college courses in Photography Composition and Mechanics, and Black & White (film) Photography. I am very comfortable with operating an SLR camera properly, however a little rusty with film development. My strengths are really in explaining the elements of photographs (e.g. lighting, depth of field, composition, focus, etc.) and finding techniques of creating a photograph that illustrates what you want it to.

Public Speaking

Public speaking is part of my everyday life. As a presenter for two non-profit organizations, a Volunteer Executive Director for one, a Board Member for another, and presenting psychological research at professional conferences, I have utilized several of the public speaking techniques and formal speech structures. In addition to speaking publicly, I am proficient in creating dynamic presentations using visual aids (i.e. PowerPoint presentations).

Statistics

I have taken all possible Statistics courses within the Social and Behavioral Sciences at California State University Northridge. I have also tutored and mentored in Statistics and Research Methods for several years while in school. Statistics is fun! And, I hope I can impart that on my students!

Study Skills

Organization is one of the most powerful determinants of the success of studying. I am excellent with developing and maintaining organization of academic materials, schedules, ideas, and notes.

In addition to organization, there are several different ways in which people absorb and retain knowledge. By identifying the way you learn, I can help you develop ways to make learning (and remembering what you've learned) fun and easy!

Writing

I have assisted students ranging in age from 10 years old to graduate students in the area of writing, including SAT writing and APA style writing for the social sciences.
