About Tyler

I've been in your shoes, and I promise, there is a light at the end of the tunnel! Math, physics and engineering courses can be frustrating. Sometimes the teacher or professor simply doesn't explain things in a way that helps you learn. As a 4th year Electrical Engineering and Physics double major at California State University, Long Beach, I know what it's like to not fully grasp a subject the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or nth time it's repeated in the same fashion. By learning and being forced to teach myself many topics, I've learned the value of having a subject explained in multiple different ways.

In my time spent tutoring, I've also experienced that what works for one student, most likely will not be what the next student needs. My goal going into a tutoring session is not to get the student to arrive at the correct answer as quickly as possible, but rather, my goal is to help build meaning and develop an understanding of the concepts present. If a student approaches asking, "is this the right formula for this question?", I want him or her to leave the interaction with a new-found understanding, not an instruction manual on how to crank out answers.

I've taken 3 college calculus courses, differential equations and applied mathematics. Beyond this, I use principles of each of these almost every day in my engineering and physics courses. In this way, I have a deep understanding of the principles behind the mathematics as well as their applications.

I've taken 4 years of electrical engineering and physics courses and have a strong passion in both fields. I'm currently enrolled In a "teaching physics" course, in which we're learning principles of teaching that help students in STEM courses specifically. With this, were tutoring first year physics students as well as working in high school classrooms locally.

I'm generally available Monday, Wednesday, Friday with occasional weekends. If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please feel free to get in contact with me.

Happy learning!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
