My main specialization is Philosophy. In my specialization, the subjects I am well-versed with are History of Philosophy (Ancient, Medieval, Modern), Ethics, Epistemology, Analytic Philosophy, and Symbolic Logic. Yet, my foundations in Philosophy have equipped me to be competent in teaching other subjects such as Writing, Math (Elementary Math through Calculus), History (World and United States).

I am a versatile tutor that has experience with various subjects for over 5+ years.

My first tutoring experience began while I was working on my Philosophy degree at UC Berkeley. Since then, I have had the experience of working as a freelance tutor as well as working for a tutoring center. As a freelance tutor, I have tutored ELA (English Language and Arts), Math, and Social Studies to students from first grade, second grade, as well as fourth through sixth grade. I have also tutored Introductory Philosophy to a high school senior. When I was an employee for a tutoring center, I have tutored Algebra, Precalculus, English, History, and the Writing and Reading and Comprehension section of College admissions exams (SAT and ACT) to high school students. I have also tutored English as a second language to a few foreign exchange students.

While I may have had a variety of tutoring experience with students from various levels, I have recognized the common denominator between all of them. The common denominator is the importance of making sure students are learning comfortably. My experience taught me that certain things have to be considered to ensure that they are learning comfortably. These things are learning at pace they are comfortable in, engaging with them in a language they can relate, and making sure their unique learning tendencies are identified. Hence, my tutoring approach can be described as conscientious and intentional.

As a tutor here on Wyzant's platform, I look forward to walking with you in your learning journey - whatever it may be. See you soon!

Very well organized

He helped me to break down a concept into a format I understand so I can write my essay more thoroughly. I was more excited to write my essay knowing I had more concrete information to rely on.

Knowledgeable and extremely helpful

John Paul is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I just had my first tutoring session with him for a religion paper due the next day and he helped me polish it up both contextually and grammatically.
