I offer mathematics tutoring for students in middle school and high school. I tutor a wide range of mathematical subjects, including Algebra and Calculus and everything in between. My tutoring methods vary depending on the strengths and weaknesses of the student. I try to adapt my teaching style to match up with the student's learning style in order to develop a deep understanding of the material. At the same time I also try to help students develop better work habits and study skills in order to become better overall performers in the classroom. I have been told by my past students that the way I explain math, using unique analogies and real life applications, allows them to comprehend the overall big picture; once the student has a grasp on the core mathematical concepts, everything becomes much easier because not only do they know how to do the math, they also understand why it works.
I have four years of formal tutoring experience, (which doesn't include the dozens of high school classmates that I occasionally tutored privately in my spare time). For the last two years I have been tutoring LAUSD students as part of the No Child Left Behind Supplemental Education Services program. I currently attend CSULB, where I am working toward a degree in mathematics (option in Education) and from there I plan to go on to be a high school mathematics teacher.
Furthermore, I become personally invested in every student I tutor; I make it my personal mission to improve their math skills, to elevate their grades, and most importantly to spark an interest in and create a love for mathematics. I was really worried about using a private tutor for the first time, but Jeremy is excellent. He worked with my niece and brought confidence to her testing anxiety and increased her grade points. He is flexible on meeting location and time which works with hectic schedules. I plan to continue to use him for tutoring services in the future and for reviews. You won't be sorry you went with this professional!
Jeremy has made my daughter a lot more confident in math in just two sessions. He is teaching my daughter how to do pre-calculus. I think he studies his students on how they learn and goes from there. Before Jeremy my daughter and I would stay past 10 pm trying to figure out math. The event that led me to find a tutor was when my daughter was in tears cause she could not understand the math, and I felt like a horrible parent for not being able to help her. Again in just two sessions my daughter is understanding her math. I am very pleased and I highly recommend Jeremy. The reason for the 4 stars is because of punctuality. He runs a couple of minutes late. If not for this he would get 5+ stars.
Jerry worked with our son over several sessions and I give much of the credit to him that my son was able to bring up his Pre-Calculus grade. I would definitely recommend him highly.
Jeremy does a great job tutoring our son in
Algebra! Our son finds Jeremy easy to relate to and to understand. We would recommend Jeremy highly.
We were all very relieved when, due to Jeremy's tutoring, my son seemed to stress less about his algebra class, and I think he even shocked his teacher, and that's just the result we desired.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Algebra 1 is the foundation on which all of the following mathematical subjects are built upon, so it is essential that students learning it have a complete understanding of the core concepts and they are not just reading, remembering and regurgitating the information. A thorough understanding of these concepts ensures a better understanding of the mathematical subjects that follow. That is why I take careful time to ensure my students know why it works, not just that it works. Algebra 1 is the course I plan on teaching once I become a teacher because I know that understanding Algebra 1 is absolutely crucial to a students mathematical success.
