Hello, my name is Karla. I am currently a Registered Nurse (RN) and a homeschool teacher. I have my master's in nursing education and have experience working as an RN on a medical-surgical floor that specializes in stroke patients. As a nurse, my knowledge specializes in anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and pharmacology. As a native Spanish-speaker, I know medical terminology in English and Spanish and my work experience has given me the privilege to interpret and translate for my Spanish-speaking patients as a medical professional.
As a nursing student, I graduated with honors from my nursing program in 2015 and passed the NCLEX on my first attempt with 75 questions. Now, I am an experienced RN and have background education of higher-level anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry, and nursing courses. My RN roles included, but were not limited to, neurological and head-to-toe assessments, medication administration, wound care, interpretation, and patient education. My role as an RN has fostered a deeper understanding of the human body and its functions, fine-tuned my critical thinking skills, and nurtured my compassion for improving one's quality of life.
I am also a homeschool teacher for my 3 children, whom I've been teaching for 4 years now. My homeschool experience includes teaching from pre-kindergarten to 7th grade in all school subjects (math, science, history, language arts, and Spanish). This role includes integrating teaching strategies that help improve students' knowledge retention and understanding of the material.
My experience and knowledge gained from teaching, working as a nurse, and from my master's in nursing education program have prepared me to facilitate student learning and utilize methods that help students succeed.
