I am a composer/concert pianist whose original piano and orchestral compositions have been performed by several schools in the Irvine Unified School District including the Honors Orchestra. Current orchestral compositions are currently under review for performance by the Pacific Symphony Orchestra.
I have written two music instructional and piano performance books, chamber and choral works. When needed, I often write original compositions for my students to study specific techniques. This offers a personal tailoring to the student's specific needs as well as the students complete ownership of the task.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have written over 100 compositions for the piano, orchestra, Choral, chamber group and other various instrumentation. Many of my works have been performed by large and small orchestras. I also write film music for both professional and private projects on a regular basis
Through my studies at school, I have undergone extensive ear training over the course of many years. I have utilized what I have learned in the real world as an orchestrator, where often times a composer will only hum a tune over the phone and I would then have to produce a completely orchestrated segment based on the hummed tune. I have also had an extensive background in live improvisational playing as a keyboardist in a band and in studio recordings where things get improvised on the spot.I understand the value and technicalities of good ear training.
I am a composer for all instruments. I have written for every size orchestra and chamber group as well as various solo instruments, especially piano. I am well versed in the nuances of every instrument, as I would have to be in order to write competently for each of them. I have been around all types of music, recording as a studio musician for Classical, Jazz, Pop, R&B Film and Alternative music. I am well versed in all aspects of general music.
Music history is a specialty of mine. I make sure all of my students know the history and background of the composer for the piece(s) they are currently learning. I have studied extensively, the history of music through its periods, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic, Post Romantic, Modern and Contemporary. I have studied the lives of the great composers as well as the obscure. Some of the greatest works of music has come from composers that most people have never heard of such as, Godowsky, Thalberg, Beach, Durufle and many others.
As a composer for film and television, I have an extensive background in music production. I know what it takes to go from concept to final mixdown. I am very familiar with Virtual Sound Technology used to create virtual orchestras or complete bands from a single computer and a single keyboard.
I have an extensive background in music theory and am a big proponent of teaching it in conjunction with every level of music I teach. As a composer and orchestrator, I have had to use it daily and I know the value of being well versed in theory of music. Theory is the backbone of music in all of its aspects. As music is constantly evolving, even I keep learning after 40 years. I eagerly push the value of music theory to new students who often have a difficulty of seeing its importance early. I could not compose music without it. It's like a writer trying to write, but refusing to learn the alphabet first.
I am a classically trained pianist first and foremost. I have performed live more than 500 times in concert. At thirteen years old I was tapped to make my debut at the famous Carnegie Hall in New York city. I have taught piano at various music schools over the years and currently maintain a select clientele of private students. One of my recent students was accepted into the Juilliard School of music after a successful audition. Most of my solo writing has been for the piano. several of my students have performed my pieces in concert and have posted their videos on YouTube.
I have written over 100 songs. The art of songwriting is what initially led me to composing. I wrote songs for the band I was in as well as for film projects over the years and for submissions to various recording artists. I can compose or teach my student to compose and perform songs in virtually any style available.
