I have taught school for more than 20 years. Most of those years I worked with special needs children from K to grade 12. I was a Resource Room teacher and also had my own Special Day Class. Currently, I am a substitute teacher for the Orange County Department of Education Alternative Education.

I can also teach 3-5 year olds at preschool level.

I recently qualified to tutor ESL and CBEST students.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Recently, I received an in Legal Studies (paralegal). I'm sure I would not have a problem helping any student who needs help with a Business Law class.

There are a lot of different aspects to business law. A small business is generally privately owned and operated with very few employees. A small business can be organized as corporations, partnerships, nonprofits or sole proprietorship. Corporate and business law collectively govern all aspects of run-ning a business, incorporating consumer law, contract law, employment law, environmental law, insurance law, intellectual property law, finance law and tax law.

When I came to CA in 2004 with my teaching credentials from Illinois, I was told that in order to teach in CA, I needed to take and pass the CBEST within a year.

I took and passed the CBEST.

Since I have taken and passed the CBEST, I am familiar with the types of questions that appear on the test. I feel that I would be able to help any student who needs to take this exam and pass it, in order to teach in CA.

Computer Science

I am CompTIA A+ certified. I worked more than 14 years as Help Desk Manager at a well-known University. I am proficient in MS Applications Word, Excel, PowerPoint. and Access.

I have a M.Ed. in Learning Disabilities from National College of Education. I was a Resource Teacher, having contact with children who had dyslexia. They all had areas with which they struggled: some with reading, some with writing, and others with spelling and speaking. Many of them had problems with their self-image. I worked with the students on an individual and small group basis.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a B.S.Ed. in elementary education. I also have an M.Ed. in special education. This allows me to work with children with special needs through High School. I am certified for Grammar, Reading, Spelling, Vocabulary, and for MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

I have taught Kg., 1st, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.

Elementary Math

I have taught in the primary grades. Many of my materials I make myself. I have lots of interesting ways to have a child learn math. I would love to share them.

Math skills are necessary in real life and teaching them is what I do.

I have worked with several students whose second language was English. I helped them to impreove their reading, writing and speaking of English. In one case, I helped a student while she was in school so that she could pass her tests.

General Computer

I am CompTIA A+ certified. I spent 14 years in the in the computer department at the University of Illinois, College of Pharmacy working the help-desk, networking computers, and helping the faculty, staff and students learn how to use computers.

I have taught beginning Hebrew students this past year. They needed help with learning the Hebrew alphabet as well as the vowels. Celebrations and projects for all the important holidays took place. The children participated in a play for Purim, made Seder Plates and Elijah and Kiddush cups for Passover. They also did a project involving the 10 Commandments for Shavuot. They learned to write Hebrew words as well as read and speak in Hebrew.

I recently received an A.A. degree in Legal Studies (paralegal). Although it wasn't law school, we covered all aspects of the law including Contracts, Real Property, Civil Litigation, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Evidence, Wills, Trusts & Probate, Torts, Research, Writing & Analysis, Software in the Legal Office.

Microsoft Excel

MS Excel is a spreadsheet program. Using this program will enable you to manipulate and analyze data. You'll be able to put your data into charts (bar, pie). You'll also be able to export your data into other Office programs.

Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft Outlook is mail software (sending and receiving mail). Although mainly as an e-mail application, it also provides for a calendar, task and contact management, note taking, a journal and web browsing. It can be used as a stand-alone application on your home computer. It can also operate in conjunction with Microsoft Exchange Server for multiple users in an organization, such as shared mailboxes and calendars, public folders and meeting time allocation. I have worked for organizations where Microsoft Outlook was used for e-mail.

Microsoft PowerPoint

The main purpose of MS PowerPoint is to enable the user to create dynamic, informational slide shows through the use of text, graphics, and animation. Slide shows created with the software are displayed on projection screens for business, training, or educational presentations, and they can be distributed as stand-alone files. Also, the slides can be arranged and printed as handouts for reference.

With Microsoft PowerPoint, you can make charts, tables, and macros, and insert images, audio, video, and other multimedia files.

Microsoft Publisher

For more than a year I worked for a religious organization using Publisher, and producing their monthly bulletin. I also used Publisher to create announcements of coming events and flyers.

Microsoft Word

MS Word is a word-processing program used for creating documents such as letters, brochures, learning activities, tests, quizzes and students' homework assignments.

Networking (Computer)

I am CompTia A+ Certified. I worked at a well-known university for 14 years. I was help desk manager. Along with my other duties, I helped in networking the college as it transitioned from stand-alone computers to a network. I helped with the rewiring and wiring in the closets. Early on, I installed network cards and configured the computers so they would connect to the network.

I also helped students, staff and faculty learn how the network worked and provided instructions to them so they could connect to the network from their dorm rooms or at home.

For many years, I taught in the elementary grades where phonics instruction was stressed during reading time. Many of the children in my classes had special needs where learning to read was very challenging. I used many of my own materials including flashcards, charts, phonics workbooks, and games to help the students improve their skills. To all parents, I stressed the importance of reading to their children so their reading skills would be improved. I also suggested time be set aside for them to listen to their children read.

I have done proofreading for other students in recent months. They passed their courses with flying colors. A fresh set of eyes always helps whether the paper is a long or short one.

Special Needs

I have taught children ith special needs for more than 20 years. My M.Ed. is in special education. Here in California, it qualifies me for children with mild/moderate disabilities.

I have worked with children who have ADD/ADHD, Autism, Learning Disabilities etc.

I am familiar with IEP meetings, writing IEPs and adhering to the federal and state laws regarding special needs children.
