Pepperdine University (Philosophy, German)
I am passionate about education, and believe it is one of humanity's highest pursuits. I am capable of tutoring in a number of areas including better writing, basic mathematics, and German language reading, writing and speaking. Most of all, however, I am interested in helping others to think clearly and logically–a skill one keeps for life, and can apply to any subject.
I served as Editor-in-Chief for Pepperdine University's online academic publication Global Tides, and have significant experience editing academic texts. If you want to improve any written document, or your own writing and editing skills, I can help.
I have a successful past in tutoring, at the elementary, high school and collegiate level, helping students pass courses that they were failing. With concentration and effort, failure is defeasible.
That's the sales pitch, but here's a little about me. I'm a recent college graduate who double majored in philosophy and German at Seaver College, Pepperdine University's undergraduate college. At Pepperdine I studied in Heidelberg, Germany and traveled about half of Europe, including France, Spain, Denmark, Italy, Greece, Hungary, the United Kingdom, Austria, Switzerland. I also traveled to Israel, visiting Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Tel Aviv, and the Dead Sea; on the same trip I visited Palestine. Traveling has given me a lot of first-hand exposure to the world's art, architecture and culture, which I love to share with people I tutor.
On a less refined note, I'm a big fan of Improv and stand-up comedy. I've got a good sense of humor. Sometimes, I imagine that I could be a court philosopher to some monarch and spend my time imparting wisdom and skills to spoiled little aristocratic children. That's the dream job–want to hire me?

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
If it is writing, I could help. I have a short course I've developed to teach people how to write, it's for adults, college and High School students. He would read about writing, learn important grammatical rules and edit his essays. The course includes work on time management, structure and writing strong sentences. Each session is an hour long, and other than any additional writing the student needs to finish, there's not additional work outside of the hour. Reading about how to write and learning key grammatical rules is all done within the first 20 minutes of the lessons; the rest of the time is for writing and editing.
I completed Geometry in school, and received an A in the course. I went on to study Physics and Calculus, which are more difficult. I currently tutor in Geomety, and am up-to-date on tutoring it. Plus I think it's fun.
I have a BA in German.
Studied and lived in Germany for one year.
At Pepperdine University, I took a course on German Government and Society, and completed AP Government in High School. I received an A in the course, and passed the AP test. Studying systems of government and law is something I enjoy. Having studied philosophy, I read political philosophy, and am trained to think like a lawyer. This is useful when analyzing court cases etc as one does in Government courses.
I've studied, and have a B.A. in German, giving me a thorough training in grammar and linguistics. Further, I served as Editor-in-Chief of an Academic Journal, Global Tides, at Pepperdine University. I completed a philosophy B.A. at Pepperdine University. My studies included a course in logic, and many of my lectures required logical proofs as assignments. I use logic every day, still have my logic textbook, and reference it while writing philosophy papers. I'm thoroughly prepared to tutor in logic, including Aristotelain Logic, Boolean Logic, Predicate and Propositional Logic.
