Reading and writing are considered chores for many of us. If you talk to those around you, you may easily find that they dread the task or simply believe they are the worst when it comes to expressing their thoughts on paper. Perhaps you are even one of these folks.

Welcome to the world of reading and writing: it's difficult for everyone! We all have to work at it, you are totally not alone, and I am here to help you through it!

My experience in both reading and writing is extensive and thorough: at New York University, I double-majored in English and Journalism and minored in Creative Writing. I recently graduated from University of Florida, where I earned my Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing, Fiction, while also teaching as an university instructor and tutoring through the University's Writing Studio. Most of the lectures I've held have centered around rhetoric and composition, fiction, technical and professional writing, and literature; however, in the Writing Studio, I saw it all: college and graduate school application essays, research papers, reflection essays, scientific articles, dissertations, theses, poetry, etc.

Being a fiction writer makes me a very particular type of editor: I can see the breadth of any piece of writing from beginning to end, quickly being able to pick out which information is pertinent and where it belongs in the document. This perspective allows me to make large texts flow with energy and care, since I approach all writing, regardless of type or purpose, as a story. And who doesn't like a good story?

I perform careful and thorough line edits on essays or stories with detailed comments to help you understand both your weaknesses and strengths, so you can begin to gain control over both. We can discuss common grammar mistakes, sentence structure issues, or vocabulary choice. If you don't even know where to begin, no problem! We can structure the essay step by step, deciding which information goes where and why that particular format is the most persuasive and representative of who you are and what you have to say.

If you are hoping to write more professionally or to stand out in the business realm, I can help there too. No matter what field you are in or choose to follow, communicating efficiently and effectively through writing is vital. I will provide you with rhetorical tools to highlight your voice and to deliver your message in an organized and well-researched manner.

And of course, if you simply want to write creatively, I'm your girl! Let's get weird.
Being able to express your ideas and personality in the written form is not only an invaluable skill, but a joy. It's also an awesome excuse to be totally arrogant! Whatever you are working on, whatever your grade level or education, whether a native or ESL speaker--whoever you are: contact me and let's work together on reaching your goals and surpassing your potential!

I know how to encapsulate someone's story into a concise and clear, yet captivating read.

Amazing tutor!

Just had my first workshop with Youmi. I needed help on my UC app essay, and I was lost, not being able to fully express what I want to write on my essay. I had written drafts, which helped us to complete a prompt within two hour. Not only that, I learned so much, she has helped me on my overall essay in the best way and tried to come up with good/new ideas so that I can put my words into it. My essay turned out amazing and I'm so happy that she understood every little details and carefully organized my thoughts into my essay! Looking forward to see her again.
