About Judith

Dear Student:

My approach to tutoring is to get to know you as a unique individual with unique needs, determine with you how you best learn, find out what interests you, discuss your specific tutoring and learning needs and then develop an action plan to reach your goals. We will work on this plan together and track the outcomes weekly. I believe that all children can be inspired to become life long learners, by becoming curious about the world they live in and becoming a self-motivated student. I believe students should eventually take responsibility for their own learning. When they do, it enhances their ability to engage with others, connect to the world and discover that learning is exciting!

I believe learning should be fun, challenging, laced with exciting activities and experiences that allow you to grow and develop your full potential and stretch your imagination. I believe that if students are self aware and understand their gifts and talents, they are better able to soar personally and educationally within their learning environment. I have tutored students on a one-on-one basis in Virginia, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. I have been a teacher, substitute teacher, teacher trainer, and curriculum writer. I am currently a writer of a multimedia project for children on developing their leadership skills. The tutoring tools I use are varied such as: open ended discussions, video, Q&A, reading together, discovery exercises, internet work, free form writing, literature biographies, scrapbooks, workbook assignments, grammar exercises, real life writing exercise, and more. My strengths in tutoring lie in writing, English, grammar, literature, and self expression in writing.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
