Helping others reach their potential and realize their creativity is what I thrive on. I'm an artist, craftsman and kids' soccer coach who has been a stay-at-home dad with my two boys, who are now 10 and 12. I have a BFA and MFA in Fine Art and have taught art as a graduate student. More recently, I've worked with kids on the soccer field, helping them gain confidence and success. I took beginning soccer players and coached them to four undefeated seasons. With kids in early developmental stages, I worked long extra hours to coach them to develop the skills they needed to be confident team players. I helped kids who were struggling in school or with family issues believe in themselves and become responsible team members.
I've taught drawing, printmaking, painting, composition and art theory to young people. I'm also an avid photographer. I'm patient with teaching art and believe in bringing out a child's innate creative spirit and confidence.
I motivate kids to want to succeed. I analyze their skills and help them where they are deficient so they can be a confident and competent player. In soccer, for instance, I've helped kids at all levels, beginners to highly skilled, to achieve success as team members. I also stress respect and sportsmanship. I participated in competitive football and track myself, as well as recreational weight-lifting, skiing, racquetball, soccer, bicycling, and volleyball.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you realize your creativity and athletic success! Helping others reach their potential and realize their creativity is what I thrive on. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelor's and Master's in Fine Art. I was a teaching assistant in graduate school for art classes. I also worked for 10 years as a professional artist, producing exhibits for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, which involved screen printing, painting, drawing, woodworking, and other aspects of exhibit production. I am an energetic, personable person who believes in helping draw out a student's own creativity.
I have coached U10-U12 youth soccer for several years, helping kids who were new to soccer become competent and confident players and leading my teams to 4 undefeated seasons, while building camaraderie and having a lot of fun. I know how to see what a player's strengths are and how to work with them to improve upon their developmental areas. I played football in high school and intramural sports in college, so I also understand sporstmanship and teamwork first hand.
