With 8 years' elementary classroom teaching experience, a Master's Degree as a Reading Specialist and years of after school tutoring, I am well-versed in "the extra push" to keep on track. Individual subjects can be a challenge for some learners and my goal is to make learning concepts FUN for students. Using differentiated activities such as games or real-life written or verbal responses helps solidify information so it makes sense to learners. I'd love the opportunity to help your child feel more confident in the classroom!

Lindsay greeted our daughter with enthusiasm, and used learning tools to keep her engaged throughout the session. She was clearly knowledgeable, and well-equipped to identify the most effective ways to support our daughter's learning process. We feel confident that our daughter will learn a great deal from Lindsay.
Lindsay is great at connecting with my 6 yr old daughter and making reading fun and interactive. My daughter happily "plays" with Lindsay for over an hour learning without even realizing it. Lindsay is a wonderful and responsive teacher. So happy we connected!!
We were impressed by Lindsay's ability to make a connection with our ADHD son on the first tutoring session. She was able to get our son to engage in learning and testing activities by getting down on the floor and working with him at eye level. We were surprised when our son retrieved a number of heavy reference books to show Lindsey his extensive knowledge on various topics. She was able to keep my child's attention for most of the tutoring session. Per our earlier suggestion, she gave him frequent breaks during the hour. She was very patient with him when his attention started to fade at the very end. We were grateful for her observations and suggestions for additional services that might help our child catch up with his peers. We are looking forward to the next tutoring session with Lindsay.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a California Multiple Subject credential, a Master's Degree as a Reading Specialist and have 7 years teaching experience in grades k-1. I have tutored kids from k-4 over my last 5 years teaching in language arts and math.
Throughout my career, I've implemented Handwriting Without Tears, sky writing, print and cursive. Lined paper fit for the students skill level and age, help improve overall handwriting by providing guidelines for printing.
Phonics is the foundation for most lessons in early elementary grades. I have used Words Their Way, Alphafriends, Reading and Writing Workshop and basal reading series to teach phonics to kids. Letter identification coupled with sounds helps kids begin to blend sounds to make words and then read words. Including sight words paints a full picture for early phonics success.
