About Audrey

When I was teaching in the K-6 system, I spent my summers tutoring students primarily in reading, spelling, and math. I enjoyed tutoring because I got a great deal of satisfaction in seeing a student progress from point A to point B. When a student is struggling in their coursework it can effect one's self esteem and self worth. I feel my role as a tutor is to build self esteem and self worth if needed and help individuals succeed in their courses.

I get a great deal of satisfaction in teaching whether it be in the classroom or in a tutorial setting. If I can make someone "arrive," then I have done my job.

I worked at Citrus Community College for 33 years as a Learning Disabilities Specialist. During that time I taught Basic skills classes to college students that needed to brush up on their skills in Reading, Spelling, Math, English, as well as a Study Skills courses.

In addition to teaching, I assessed students to determine program eligibility. When I worked with students with Special Needs, I assisted them in developing compensatory strategies to work around their learning problems to insure success in the classroom. I loved my job and enjoyed working with a very diverse student population on a daily basis.

There are a variety of reasons an individual may have difficulty with spelling. If a student has difficulty with spelling, I would do a functional assessment to determine the reasons they are having problems and then develop a plan that would utilize specific techniques that would aid the student in improving their spelling.

If you feel that I can assist you in succeeding in the course(s) you are experiencing difficulties, then feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have that were not addressed in my profile. If after answering any questions, you feel that I would meet your needs as a tutor, we can set up an appointment to schedule a free consultation to discuss specfic needs.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Aspergers

I worked as a Learning Disabilities Specialist at Citrus Community College for 33 years. During that time I worked with students in Disabled Students Programs and Services that had Aspergers. I taught a study skills course called Strategies to College Success for many semesters. I have my M.A. in Special Education from the University of Wyoming. From the job description I just read, the mother is looking for an individual to work with her child that has executive functioning issues which involves the planning, organization and completion of tasks. I would need to determine what specific problems her son is having in order to develop a plan to help ameliorate the problem(s).

Dyslexia

I received my M.A. In Special Education from the University of Wyoming. I worked 33 years as a Learning Disabilities Specialist at Citrus Community College. During that time I taught Basic Skills courses and many students who were taking the course were dyslexic. Those students took a class from me called Directed Assistance lab. In these classes I taught reading and spelling individually and in small groups.
In working with dyslexic students it is important to determine what type of dyslexia they have so you can determine the appropriate teaching method to assist them.

Special Needs

I graduated from the University of Wyoming with a M.A. in Special Education and was qualified to teach learning disabled students, the developmentally delayed learner, and students who were emotionally disturbed. I worked in Disabled Programs and Services for 33 years and although my main responsibility was to determine program eligibility and provide support services to students who were learning disabled, I also worked with any student that was covered under ADA.

Early on in my career, I worked a year at a school that only served students who were moderately to severely developmentally delayed.
